Just heard this rumor: The Cubs are trying to trade the two prospects that they get from the Sosa deal and a top pitching prospect of their own to TB for Audrey Huff.

Hope there is no truth to that. Or they may actually manage a good deal out of this.

That would mean the Cubs had a plan B if they ended up having to deal Sosa...hmmm

Hairston is a decent 2b. He's no Sosa, but they filled a hole.

they had Todd Walker. that's not a hole, at all. Walker is an above average bat at 2B. my bet is he's the opening day 2B for the Cubs...not Hairston.

Apparently about to sign Burnitz (remember him?).

Burnitz will do an adequate job in the Cubs OF. Hairston's best asset is his versatility, he can play 2B and all 3 OF positions. I'd expect him to get his share of ABs in a super-utility role.

    i heard that too

i'm sure our guys are too busy figuring out how to spin it when we don't lock up Lance or Roy...even though they are the "cornerstones of the franchise'

I'm just quoting gammons to be honest, but I think he meant speed and a leadoff hitter, plus the minor leaguers.

$6m for Oswalt seems low for an arbitration bid, considering his talent and career to date. I hope they are willing to offer him a market value contract. Judging by the Stros history, they'll keep Berkman (can't remember them losing a homegrown hitter) but lose Oswalt (can't remember them keeping a pitcher) somewhere down the line.

admission of what?? that there wasn't a plan b?? i can't presume one way or the other. i do know that the track record of the Astros has been pretty good in making moves when they need to be made. i'll reserve judgment until AFTER the season instead of assuming and presuming the whole way.

no need for you to even watch, NJ. you know what's gonna happen, already.
