Sammy still has a no-trade clause in his contract... but If i were him i would be happy in B-more.

Hmm, I have to admit that I didn't think that they would really be able to move Sosa. I wonder how much of Sosa's salary are paid by the Cubs.

The good news is that there aren't any good FAs left on the market (unless you count Maglio Ordonez who isn't really healthy) and they won't be able to get anyone good with the money that they saved.

I hope Tim and Drayton are enjoying themselves watching sportscenter while all of this offseason movement goes on.

How about a call to Maglio...although I would imagine that the Cubs probably have an inside track on him at this point.

1.) Ordonez is a Scott Boras client

2.) Boras wants a 7 year contract. The tigers have already offered 4 or 5 years at 50 million to a guy coming off an injury. No thanks

I know he is a Boras client...but he's a superstar and apparently reports are that he is close to 100%...that being said, I dont honestly think we would go after him...mainly because of Boras and we already have one injury in the OF to worry about.

    More on the trade:

    Cubs get:

    2B Jerry Hairston
2 Minor Leaguers (P David Crouthers and 2B Mike Fontenot are rumored. I'm surprised the O's would give up Fontenot)

    Orioles get:

    OF Sammy Sosa
    Approximately 10 million.

The O's and Sosa will restructure their contract.

So the Cubs got trash prospects back, plus are paying most of Sosa's salary. Pretty much what I predicted. Would have been nice for the Stros to get that kind of deal, but I'm sure they wouldn't have made the same sort of deal for a divisional rival. Heck of a steal for the O's.

I hope they are, too. They just saw a division rival give up the bulk of its run production, last season, in Sosa and Alou.

Do you honestly think the Cubs would have traded Sammy to a division rival?

If they were willing to trade him to the Mets, there isn't much difference seeing as how they will be competing more for the WC than the division.

This is far too rational. You have to use your emotion when you talk baseball.

    For example:
"Tim Purpura sucks!!!11!!1 I can't believe he didn't do anything to PLAN for 2006. We have NO outfield, only TWO pitchers, and as ALWAYS, we let ALL of our good players go!!!1 Drayton is a tightwad!!!11 TRADE BAGWELLL!!!!!!

Now, with a little practice, maybe you can get that good. ;)

they didn't trade him to the Mets...they traded him to the O's. to the AL. i don't know what they were actually considering. but you don't typically trade away HOF players...past MVP's...to division rivals. that has a way of biting you in the ass.

and you can continue to have your glass half empty...but a major division rival lost virtually all of its offensive punch from a season ago. i think that's a good thing.

damn right. And the Cards lost their most clutch player and their leadoff hitter and their defensive middle infield. And lost pretty much their best reliever. Gained a #1 starter finally...amazing they did so well without one...which is scary. But hopefully a #1 can be nullified by a #1 on the other side.

Why does StL have such a (LaRussa) history of injured arms?

Pitchers are just abnormally subject to injury. Throwing the way they do, at the speed they do, just isn't a natural arm movement.
