^This is why I'm getting out of the PC game MRKT, sure consoles might be close to 500.00, but it will last close to 5 years and I wont have to upgrade the thing every 2-3
I'm going the same route with the Xbox 360... I am all about online play and keyboard/mouse combo and the fact that the new Xbox Live will be leaps and bounds ahead of the current system and that you can plug USB mice/keyboards into the system I'll be in heaven. I usually upgrade once a year and I'm tired of dropping 1000-1500 bucks every year. I'll keep my PC fairly up to date for now because of Quake 4, FEAR, World of Warcraft and the Half-Life 2 mods but after that I'm going to go with the 360 as much as possible.
Wow. Sounds like me a couple years ago. I couldn't deal with shelling out all that cash every year, so now I just buy a computer every 3-4 years. I find it saves me a bundle of money because game prices drop like crazy after a year. I buy all the hot games that came out 1-2 years ago. I find I can always max out the graphics that way, which makes me feel good.
You might want to look at zipzoomfly.com for some of your purchases, too. They often have the same or lower prices and throw in free 2nd day FedEx on a bunch of stuff they sell.
I'm sorry man, but playing an RPG on a console is a vile thought. To be honest, I only upgrade because I like newer graphics performance. If I turn the graphics down in some of the games out there now, I could still play those games and the games would still look good - just not their best.
lol. Well, yeah, that's one way to do it, but a lot of the games I play now will be with friends over the 'Net. I can't explain to them why I want to all of a sudden play Quake... "Dude!!! Quake 4?!??!"... "uh... no... Quake". The other thing I use my computer for is work-related stuff. There's no way a computer thats 4-5 years old would handle some of the stuff I work on today - well, not very well anyway.
LOOK HARDER DOD! SIMPSONS DID IT! SIMPSONS DID IT! SIMPSONS DID IT! http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=101488&highlight=Empires Try searching Age of Empires 3. I got the game the day it came out. I love it. What I've been upgrading on the last few years: 2year old AMD Athlon 2400 XP 1GB Patriot 3200 xtreme ram eVGa nVidia 6800 GT 256MB That's my gaming system.
I can't play that game anymore. I don't know why. I get tired of playing it so fast now. I played Battle Field Vietnam forever. but BF2 got kind of boring aweful quick. I don't know why. I've been playing CS a lot now.
I liked the demo, but I'll probably hold off on playing the full version until I can get a decent gaming PC. Probably wait until next summer or so until I start researching on what parts to get. That should probably leave enough time for the new ATI cards as well as the 7800 GT/GTX prices to go down a bit, especially since I believe we should be seeing another round of cards by January or so IIRC. I'm mostly a console gamer, but there's always a few PC games that really grab my attention (damn Bethesda and their Elder Scroll series).
That kind of logic never works for PC's though (the waiting till the price comes down for the top card). Because by that time there'll be another card out or about to come out thats even better. That's why I went ahead and bought the 6800GT. Mainly because I could of waited for it to get cheaper but then I'd be eye balling the 7800 card...etc.
Oh no, I'm not wanting to get the best card. I'm basically waiting for something like the 7800 GTX RIGHT NOW to become more affordable, not the best card or next-to-best card that ATI/Nvidia has at the time. I'm just waiting for those new cards to come out and slide into those $400-$500 price range, bumping everything else down to a more affordable price. I may see if I can get something around $300 or so, which might be close to the sweetspot for "power per dollar" or whatever you want to call it. No way I'd spend a couple hundred more for just 3-5 extra FPS; with a little bit of research, I might even be able to get that performance by unlocking pipes/overclocking. Depending on how things go, I may also look at something from the 6800 series if they can be had at a great price, although I'd like to see if I can get one of the newer cards that can handle some of the SM3.0 features a little better. Like MartianMan, I'll probably end up looking to play games that came out 6-12 months earlier. Oblivion will be the main reason for getting a new PC, and I may check out some of these other games (FEAR, AOE III, Condemned if it comes out on the PC, Gothic III, etc.). Just something to keep me busy while I'm not playing any console games.
Yeah I hear ya. I bought my 6800GT because of BF2, and HL2. I'm happy I bought it now, I use it quite often now and it's really nice to beable to MAX all the settings in every game I play for once in my life time!
