Where are the people stranded on their roofs for 2 weeks begging for food, water and medical attention because of Obama's lack of action after the oil spill? Oh, that's right....there are none.

The two situations are not even CLOSE to being comparable. Anyone who thinks they are is probably being intellectually dishonest and just looking for "payback" for how they feel Bush was treated after Katrina.

For a good example of this, just listen to talk-radio for a few minutes......

The oil spill would not have happened if a Republican was president.

I keep hearing from his critics that Obama hasn't done anything or hasn't done enough and I just don't get it. I can concede that if he had all the facts and prognostications in front of him at the beginning, as has been reported, that he should have and could have reacted faster in deterring the oil from hitting the shorelines. But when you're talking a disaster of this magnitude, how much would a quicker response helped? You're still gonna have a catastrophe on your hands regardless.

And the beaches, shorelines and wetlands that booms are supposed to protect, I keep hearing they are the easiest to cleanup, that it's the oil in the deep waters that requires the most immediate attention. And to that end there have skimmers out there, there have been efforts to burn off the oil. I doubt the Federal government has the resources to stop the leak itself, a leak that is unprecedented, a leak that is a mile deep under the ocean. So it has to fall to BP, as it should. They created this accident, they need to fix it. Besides Obama can't wave a magic wand to plug it, nor can he journey to the bottom of the ocean and fix it with his own two hands. His administration, though, has stepped up pressure of BP to fix the problem, which frankly I don't think does much anyway. But what else can they do?

And of all the victims of this tragedy, those killed on the rig and those suffering financially now. Well the administration is setting up a fund for them supplied by BP and managed by a third party.

You also have Obama calling for a change in energy policy...and rightfully so. I know a lot of people think he's using this to promote his platform. But he's right, oil is a finite resource and the longer we are dependent on it the more risks we'll have to take to find it.

And in this particular instance, I don't see what the Coast did that was wrong. You don't want to add to this disaster by creating another one. Make sure those ships out there aiding in the cleanup effort aren't gonna put more people and more wildlife in harm's way.

So I just don't get it. What exactly should the Obama Administration do that it hasn't done? With Katrina, you had a natural disaster that you could prepare for. You had days and even a week to prepare based on forecast models. You had the time to get everyone out. You had the time to be ready to mobilize as soon as the hurricane passed after a few hours. But they didn't use that time efficiently. They didn't get everyone out and they didn't mobilize as soon as the hurricane passed. They knew the levees could break, and yet they were seemingly unprepared when that became reality. The Gulf Oil spill happened without warning and is ONGOING. Sure, the warning signs were there. Corners were cut that jeopardized safety. But it's not like anybody could predict that on such and such day an explosion would destroy the Deepwater Horizon and cause an oil leak in the well that would spread throughout the Gulf. Furthermore with Katrina, you had a man with no experience leading the recovery effort (and it clearly showed) and a President that initially applauded his work. With this disaster, you have a seasoned veteran of the Coast Guard heading the response and President calling for "who's ass to kick." (which I thought was a tad unnecessary)

So again, what on earth should Obama be doing that he isn't doing now? Realistically what is he supposed to do? I'm really curious.

I don't have a problem with a 24 hour delay to make sure none of the disaster responders are drowned or burned to a crisp. It'd be better if they could have gotten cleared faster, and Jindal did the right thing by putting pressure on the Coast Guard to hurry up. But, overall a complete nonstory.

Good luck getting a real answer to this simple question. Maybe he should have called in Aquaman.
