Wow. Note this is the Senate, not the House. Hopefully, something can happen to allay those concerns so Barr can be confirmed.

I don’t get what Barr is trying to do by being cagey with his answers here on this.

The simple solution would be to commit to allowing the gang of 8 or select Congressional leaders with clearance to view in full but that there might be limits to what can go public. There’s no reason why the gang of 8 should not be able to review the findings of Mueller’s probe in full and it’s a simple solution to make sure he’s commiting to not hide anything to Congress.

If Trump is truly a threat to national security but there isn’t a report or an indictment that can go public, Pelosi and Schiff will at least be able to know that much and make decisions on how best to make the public aware without sharing classified info.

It now appears whitaker really didn't mean to say Mueller's investigation was close to being wrapped up. It might be a good idea for someone to coach whitaker to not say things like this (this is at least the second time)...

The opposing party has the option to postpone the actual vote on nominees for a week, which both parties routinely exercise. That is what this is, and it was expected and anticipated in the article I posted on this earlier.

It is not anything new. It has been anticipated for some time now that Mueller will be wrapping up his investigation. As far as exactly when "soon" is, obviously Whitaker did not say.

What is being misconstrued here is what exactly “wrapping up” means.

My guess is Mueller as lead prosecutor will be handing over investigative duties to prosecutors at DC, SDNY, and back to the FBI general counterintelligence teams, but he’s in no way just going to go away. His team will be leading the prosecution of future court hearings including Stones which is at least going to be 6 months from now if not later.

Now Mueller might be planning on sending a report specifically in regards to the president in the obstruction part of the probe but that would likely be heavily redacted and just give an explanation as to why they are not indicting the president citing the DOJ policy for indicting a sitting president.

So we might not learn much at all from that, but we will surely learn more and more from the court filings which will likely have more and more “Individual 1” references that could be much more damning than a heavily redacted “we decided not to indict” report to Barr that congress might not even see if Barr doesn’t allow it.

LOL, gee, I wonder who posted the news that whitaker said the investigation was near completion. Heck, in red no less.

whitaker's big mistake was using his position to say this, when he really doesn't know (suggesting he did by starting out saying he was briefed by Mueller compounded his error). That is, if he really did say it in error (or said it to placate those on the trump side)?

William Barr has been confirmed as the Attorney General of the United States. All who work for him, including Robert Mueller, must now bow the knee.

William Barr confirmed by Senate for attorney general

Several Democrats joined nearly all the Republicans in confirming Barr, 68, a longtime lawyer who served as attorney general from 1991 to 1993 under the late President George H.W. Bush. He was confirmed 54-45.

Three Democrats, Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, Alabama Sen. Doug Jones and West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, voted to confirm Barr. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul was the lone GOP nay. Barr will be sworn in Thursday afternoon in the Oval Office at the White House. Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the oath of office.

Didn't someone got fired from the DoJ for a lack of candor?

"These circumstances generally, and Attorney General Barr's lack of candor specifically, call into question Attorney General Barr's credibility and in turn, the Department's representation that "all of the information redacted from the version of the [Mueller] Report released by Attorney General [Barr]" is protected from disclosure by its claimed FOIA exemptions." ...

Appeals court backs ruling to release DOJ memo on Trump prosecution

On Friday, Chief Judge Sri Srinivasan said the department’s initial claim that the memo was part of Barr’s decision on whether to prosecute Trump
    • turned out to be inaccurate and
    • a subsequent claim that it was intended to counsel Barr on what public statements to make about the issue came too late in the litigation.
The ruling affirms a withering opinion U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson issued last year that ordered the document’s release and
called the William Barr-led Justice Department’s initial arguments in the case “disingenuous.”
