i work for an O&G company and it blows my mind how much this business is about networking. make people like you, show you're competent and witty over the course of a few happy hour meetups, and the opportunities open up like crazy. they kind of tell you about it in college, but i wayyyy underestimated how effective networking can be.

same here. Networking isn't everything but it does open doors.

Sparked up a convo at a pub with some rowdy guys. At end of it I had 2 emails and possible job offers if I was ever in the market.
