Because I root for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back. Scola is my favorite Rocket and I hope he retires a Rocket but my desire to celebrate a title far outweighs rooting interest for a player.

NOT SAYING I thought Gasol/Nene would have made us a true contender in the West, right now, but it would have gotten Morey's grand scheme going, FINALLY. We are stuck in neutral until the first domino falls and Gasol would have been the first domino. Gasol never said he didn't want to come to Houston, he said he didn't want to leave LA...that doesn't make him a bad guy.

My personal belief is that Gasol has not started to decline just yet and won't until his contract ends in three years, at 35 yrs of age. To me, when he is at PF next to an above average center, Gasol is a top 2 PF in the whole NBA. I think a lot of Rockets' fans simple don't like the guy because he is a "Faker" and would rather be stuck in mediocrity than bring in Gasol.

All that, is my opinion strictly and don't expect everyone or even the majority of the people to believe the same but just wanted to answer to your question.

I've seen both games of Pau and he has played GOOD defense, of course helping much more than Luis. Has not been that well at rebounding, must be said.

Pau didn't liked to leave LA for Houston, ok. My opinion is that -after spending in Houston a few months- he would be happier there than in LA with the current situation. And the translation for this is a better performance.

Certainly, things don't look good for him in LA. Critics are eating him, of course unfairly.
And make no mistake, I'm far from being a Gasol lover.

In the NBA, dominoes always fall.....GMs are always working the phone. It's not like Gasol trades are one in a millenia.....or a decade....

Didn't say he was a bad guy, just not the right fit on our tough frontcourt....
SOFT .....this word comes into my mind....Guy played well at times but he was nowhere near the intensity level of a Garnett.....that is the difference.... Allstar starter vs. Allstar reserve.....intensity, motor, playing hard day in day out.......You call them punk....I call them good, tough bball players.....You don't play no Euro BBall down here.....otherwise drop dat ass back to Spain or Hollywood.
We have enough finesse soft players in Bud, Kevin.......and on defensive level Scola is not the toughest.....
We don't need Gasol....... Les Alexander needs Gasol to fill the attendance.....
    Difference

My point is not how much he declines. He aint worth the money.....and he's not getting us Howard otherwise Howard would already be in LA land.
    Top 2 is a stretch....and that's only offensively.....defensively he is maybe top 25
and please no NeNe....his stats except efficiency is just not that good.....and he is playing with more talented players than him on the Nuggets. He is not enough to really MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE.
Appreciate your time, man. Really missed talking about Basketball.

Gasol got some folks here excited, a lot of discussion, now that it is over...
We have Montiejunas.....and I am not trading for Gasol who is this type of player while we have one stashed in Poland....
get younger guys for our veterans....... this..or... defensive minded veterans that can play a little offense

Well we've waited three years for Morey to pull off a Gasol type trade, not sure how much longer we need to wait...and that would not have even been the BIG move.

I keep hearing soft and lack of heart...why? What has he done to make people believe that? I noted his stats in the two most important games of his career and they looked studly to me. I guess you're a soft Euro until you win a title by himself like Dirk.

Name me two PFs who are CLEARLY better than Gasol? NBA couldn't find one last year since he was a 2nd team all-NBA. Garnett WAS a better player than Gasol but please don't feed me that right now because last I checked Gasol pretty much killed KG in the 2010 NBA finals. How is he on the decline...he had a great season last year just a crummy post-season and is barely 31.

That means only the PF spot is not the most essential spot in the NBA.....
PG and C No.1 SG No2. PF and SF No. 3

    Go look up yourself......
for Power forwards Double doubles for example
Younger players already doing better..... Great season for you maybe top 4?

Dirk is a better shooter than Gasol
    Cuban stands behind Dirk
whereas Kupchak is willing to trade Gasol....
    Difference again....

Of course there also reasons why Gasol would be valuable but IMO long term the cons outweigh the the pros here.

Pau is vastly overrated IMO. Pau as the best player in a team is not going to take you anywhere near a championship

Pau playing a lot better tonight. 15 points in 9 shots, 8 rebounds, and 5 blocks. They haven't even finished the third quarter yet.

The last time Pau was the best player on his team, his 2nd best player was Mike Miller. And they won 49 games. The last time Kobe or Hakeem had sidekicks the caliber of Mike Miller, they weren't anywhere in the playoffs.

The reason is because basketball is a TEAM game. A fact that unfortunately most fans don't understand.

The point was more that his first two games were just bad games and there's not much evidence right now to show that his game has significantly regressed from last season. He's already proven he can put up good numbers against the best teams.

a lot of people have double standard:

If Gasol doesnt play well in 2 games: he was just in a lump, and definitely will be better later on the season.

But Kevin Martin has 2 bad preseason games and 1 bad regular season games, and people are saying, "he sucks, lets trade him, he is garbage"

    so what's the difference?

both players cant be the no.1 option, they are great as a no.2 scorer.

The difference is Gasol is a long, tall defender, while the other one is Kevin Martin.

....Jesus Shuttlesworth was the 3rd scorer on the Celtics at times.....and he is arguably better than Martin.

Gasol is an all-star, possibly a superstar.

Kevin Martin is a great scorer but nothing else.

I dont see a possibility of Gasol being a superstar... Tim Duncan is definity a superstar.

Gasquall is a bearded 2nd fiddler that he is. And Timmy was a superstar.
