You got it, and don't get excited, because JVG is back for Yao. Those kinds of
    passes will be gone soon...

You know, Texas Stoke was here before Gundy, but he sure has latched on hard. Just wonderin' why.

Y'all know I don't like Gundy. No need to elaborate. I've done it. I'm just curious about you, Stoke. Why do you take his cause so personally? Do you coach kids basketball or something?

Uh, I think Stoke just laid out his arguments pretty well. Who's really taking things personally? I mean, Christ, if Yao starts throwing too many of his cute lil passes, people are going to start b****ing that Van Gundy won't let him score enough! Yao plays team defense just like anybody else on the team. If he doesn't defend the pick and roll, that's a weakness every team in the league will exploit. It's tough for a guy his size, but everybody's got their weaknesses, even Shaq. Yao sets picks on plays run for TMac because running a couple of guards into a 7'6" guy standing on the perimeter is an effective way to clear Tracy from a double team. Scoring and passing are not the only effective ways to use a big man on offense: Coming off picks is a huge part of TMac's game, and Yao sets the best picks on the team. I don't see how this could REASONABLY be considered "killing him" when the mother ****er has to run up and down the court every time the possession changes hands! He will be running near non-stop NO MATTER WHAT. If anything, standing still in the post, wrestling for position, tires him out FAR more than flashing out to the perimeter.

But hey, I guess that's why we should stick the NBA'S TALLEST PLAYER out at the elbow, right? C'mon.

Yao is my favorite player, but sheesh, he is what he is. Every day he fails to cure cancer, it's because he's being used wrong or because someone is holding him back. I guess it's because we're all so used to defending him from the "bust" hype when he was drafted. But if anything, the defensive scheme is designed to PROTECT Yao. If you'll notice, he racks up his fouls by coming over from the weakside to cut off penetration... flashing out to the perimeter on a rotation is designed to PREVENT penetration. Sometimes he does a great job, sometimes he's a step slow, but the concept is far from unreasonable for an all-star NBA center.
