ok after careful and more thought here is my revised list:

    XII
    IX
    VIII
    VII
    X
    VI

XII is best because of its presentation and awesomeness. IX ranks 2nd because of its underrated story. VIII because of I don't really know why man but it's just above VII... it's more memorable to me. VII because of its uniqueness and story. VI for starting me off on RPG's.

Can you expound in more detail why you like XII so much? I've yet to play it, so I'd like to hear a viewpoint from someone who enjoyed it as much as you have.

Cool yeah it is highly addicting, I've been playing it on and off for about 2 years and recently they've finally made the game a bit easier. stuff like Level Sync and field book support and gear augmentation. If you play again Convicted or anyone let me know, I play the game with 5 buddies of mine and we can help ya out.

I guess I didn't enjoy it as much as him (I rate VI and VII higher), but since I did enjoy it...

Personally, I thought it had the best gameplay system of any FF. Lots of awesome changes IMO (no random battles, can set "complex" AI for teammates, weather affecting gameplay IIRC, etc.), although I understand that some people didn't like it nearly as much. Frankly, I'll be disappointed if all future FF games don't incorporate at least some of these ideas to some degree. For example, I don't really want to go back to random battles.

Story was different than most/all FF games. More political, ala FFT (think I prefer FFT though). Characters...were OK. Some were great, up there with the best of them IMO (Balthier). Others (Vaan), not so great. As I mentioned earlier though, voice acting was excellent, which made it a little easier to enjoy.

Perhaps how different it is from most FF games makes it stand out a bit, especially in regards to the story and gameplay.

I played when it came out for the US PC version back in 2003. Quit early 2008 after getting my Maat's Cap. It was fun for probably 3 years for me. After that it was just a grind doing end game events.

FFXII to me was a single player version of FFXI.

I just picked up Final Fantasy III for the DS and just started to play it. I am not impressed so far and find the GUI very frustrating. It is to early to judge on how good the game is yet but i'll give it a fair chance.

Is that the FF3 from the NES? Or the one from SNES (American FF3, Japanese FF6)?

I am not sure since im at work if i try to research it for you it will be filtered lol. But on the back of the box itself it says "Classic FINAL FANTASY gameplay is reborn in an adventure never before seen in North America. Using any combination of 23 available jobs, lead the four Warriors of the light in a journey to restore the world's balance." I hope that helps you out and btw i've gotten a chance to get further along and it is definatley getting alot better, once you get used to the GUI it gets alot easier.

Makes sense why you would be having so many issues with the game then. Graphics are pretty low on my list, but even I can't really play NES rpgs anymore because the gameplay is so ancient.

I'd have to agree with this post right here. It was basically a watered down version of FF5, but with even less of a story. I actually finished it, but kind of regret sinking time into it as it wasn't that good.
