I really like Conklin and am fully on the train for hoping he is their guy. I also know that they really like him. He's nasty. I hope he is there at 22 and they take him, but like I said, I would be fine with a trade up as well. Duane Brown has one more year and we are lucky if that's a good one considering the severity of his injury. (Lot worse than just a torn muscle. Read into what actually happened.) Derek Newton is a road grater in the run game, but he also gets nicked up A LOT and is consistently playing hurt. Not to mention he has never excelled at handling a speed rush. Teams can abuse him. My ideal would be Conklin can take Newton's job halfway through year 1 and then is either a full time starter at RT in year 2 OR takes over for Duane. Either way you can clear both of them off your cap following next season and either sign a LT or draft one in the 1st.
It doesn't matter where in the draft, as long as you do it. Brady was drafted. Gronk was drafted. Edelman was drafted. Gostkowski was drafted. Stork, Volmer, and Solder were drafted. Chandler Jones, Mayo, Hightower, Collins, and McCourty were drafted. No longer on the team but Wilfork and Mankins were drafted. Most, if not all, of those players are pro bowlers. Good Teams Build Through The Draft.
True. Texans need to get SERIOUSLY better at getting above average players regularly through the draft. Not replacement level guys. Patriots have completely overhauled their offensive and defensive lines and linebacking corps repeatedly through the draft.
Titans fan here in peace. Yeah I know... Not many like that. Congrats on yalls signings yesterday. If Miller can get some room to run he'll be a nightmare for teams. Hopefully all these signings gets the NFL off our backs a little, and we (the arc south) can prove the rest of the league wrong, considering how we all looked last year, is especially. I just came here to ask a little more about Jones. I tried getting a read on several thread, and as is on most teams sites who lose a player, some act like it's horrible that y'all lost him, some act like it's not a big deal at all. I know pretty much anyone can walk in and play center for us, but I was wondering more to see if we were getting more of a solid center, or honestly if y'all would consider him more of a band aid until we can find something better 2-3 years down the line. Thanks again!
I think Texans fans will miss him more for his ridiculous personality than anything else, but he was a solid center that I didn't want the team to lose. He's a lot more easily replaceable than Brooks, but he's still a good player. I think he'll be a good locker room presence and so his benefit to the team could go beyond his actual performance.
Thanks I appreciate that. Looking more and more like Tunsil will go one for us to be able to move Lewan to RT, and sure up our line the best we possibly can. What direction do the majority of Texans fans want to head in the first round of the draft? BPA? Or a certain need?
I always thought he was underrated on this board. He was a solid center and he is a decent guard. He won't back down and has a bit of a mean streak in him despite his goofy nature. I don't think he'll be that easy to replace, especially as he can swing to the guard position when needed. I think its a solid pick-up for the Titans. Not earth shattering, but solid.
Lively personality, very well liked by teammates, hard worker, nose to the grindstone kind of guy. Nasty. Undersized. Not "good" at any one aspect of being an NFL center, but does what is asked of him to the best of his ability. All around average player in my opinion. Gets penalized too much for a center.
He was not good when he played guard. He's just not big enough or strong enough to hold up. Gets blown up by bull rushes that can push right past him if the guard isn't working with him. But it was never from any lack of effort. Solid is the right word. Nothing more, nothing less. There's value in that.
Sucks to have lost him and brooks. Very good center. according to Myers, only Mike Ross has a better photographic memory. Can absorb an entire playbook while eating insects.
I appreciate the honest answers and definitely will repp in a second, just curious to see where y'all as fans are wanting to go for yalls first round pick. I've seen quite a few just wanting a BPA situation, but didn't know if there was a huge hole needing to be filled that early in the draft for y'all. Anyways I'll get out of yalls chat! Good luck this year, hopefully the South can surprise teams this year.
Signing free agents at RB and QB helped open up the draft a bit for the Texans. I've heard chatter they may look at a WR in the first round to complement Hopkins. Their receiver corps isn't deep. I assume they'll ultimately be drafting some OL help, so I suppose it's possible they could address that in the first round.
It'll still be a BPA situation... but they'll obviously exclude any possible QB's (unless they've worked out a trade for more picks). WR, TE, OL, DT, CB, S all fair game. I would also say RB, but this draft is fairly deep... and I've never really saw a huge impact of drafting a RB early vs. later. I think its even harder to figure out if a RB has "it" until he actually gets to play against viable NFL competition.
