Exactly. It was a minimal gamble that was worth the risk based on talent. If BOB thought he actually had potential to be good he certainly would have given up more than a 7th to get him. The only reason they didn't trade for him before training camp is because the Pats wanted too much and that was the most BOB thought he was worth.

I would agree but BOB went through last season with Fitzpatrick and Mallett; and then proceeded to bench Fitz for Mallet. He then went through camp with both Mallett an Hoyer, then benched Hoyer for Mallett in the first game. That's the mistake that he owned. It shouldn't define him as a coach but that faux pas goes on his record. Just because he admitted and owned it doesn't mean it can't count against him. If that's the case, someone needs to tell Rick Smith all he has to do is admit his bad decisions.

O'Brien was in NE from 2007-10.

He gave Mallet a pay raise and extension after one year here.

What did he see? What upside? We all saw after he finally played that Mallet is a check down master who isn't even accurate on check downs

Speaks very poorly on BOBs ability to judge talent.

No surprise he traded 3 picks for an epic bust TWICE.

And this is the guy we gave final roster power to? and we'll let it keep going because he's 6-6 this year?

Cassel has been mediocre QB but had a couple good years with an 80 career Rating. And pioli didn't see him first hand every day.

Philip Rivers has been an excellent QB

Cody Carlson was terrible but moon was 37 and I guess they felt it was time to move on.

BOB had zero reason to go after Mallet. The guy should have realized more than anyone outside of NE that he was unsalvageable hot garbage

    Well said

I'm glad he admitted it but has he learned from it? Or is he going to keep going after rejects he coached once and trading boatloads of picks for risky players?

BOB had zero reason to go after Mallett? This team had no worthy 2nd string QB to start the season last year since Savage wasn't ready so they decided to trade a 7th round pick for their backup.

Do you not read where our offense kept giving their offense good field position, while not being able to use up any time bc all their 3 and outs?

Do you understand how sports work?

    this is full of stupidity

you keep saying that they scored 21 on four possession. We're on the road and got behind and but kept up with them. We then made excellent defensive adjustments in the 2nd half. How is that out-coached for the ENTIRE game? Do you only watch the highlight reel?

The game is played for 60 minutes, yet the last quarter is the most important. What position were we in during the middle of the 4th, on the road?

    Right.

Honestly, we got lucky a lot after the game was tied. Missed FGs, penalties, etc. They got lucky too when we missed both interceptions that could've been returned for TDs.

There's a reason why there's two sides to a team in football. The defense has to be absolutely perfect every time for us to have a chance, is what you're saying.

Our defense can't afford to make any mistake at all. They're even expected to score some points for us, right? The offense can't bail them out when they have an off day a semi-off day, right?

You really think that's realistic in the modern NFL where the offense has it easier?

Everyone is gonna have an off day sooner or later. Look at all the top defense this year and name me a game where they didn't, during a win streak. The fact is, our offense can't help when we did eventually had that bad start.

Genius you just said the defense held them to nothing the rest of the way. Last I checked, the Bills scored 30 points. Where did the 10 points come from?
You obviously are not very good at this. The defense gave up 10 points and a missed field goal in the 2nd half. I know I've slept since watching the game but I'm pretty sure there's no way those possessions were not 3 and outs.

Point is, the defense did their job when it matter most.

The offense did too when they (eventually) scored and tied the game. That was just one part. They couldn't finish and kept leaving our defense, no matter how good they are/can be, vulnerable against a big-play O that kept getting good field position.

that's basically like a boxer that is allow to defend itself but can't punch back.

when were those 9 points scored? How did our offense do? What were they're field position? etc etc

I'm explaining the same thing over and over to you. 1+1=2 btw.

I keep bringing up the 21 points because you act like it wasn't important. Most of the time if you fall behind on the road by two touchdowns or more, you're not going to win. Just because they held the Bills to three 3 and outs and a touchdown in the 2nd half doesn't absolve them. BTW one of those 3 and outs led to the Texans touchdown so only two were "wasted". That is not enough. Especially not after you come back and give up the last touchdown.

The way I'm looking at this is, is that when we tied the game that's basically a new ballgame. 0-0. Both team needed to step up and make plays if they wanted to win with the game winding down. At this point, which side of our team did more to help the other? Which didn't come through for the other?

Yea, it would've been great if our D played like they did against the Bengals and kept our team within a FG or been tied going into the 4th when we did eventually score again. But it doesn't work that way all the time.

This isn't the same defense that played against ATL, MIA, or KC. They fought back and gave us a chance.

Dude. You were wrong. I even quoted you and you can't admit it LOL.

Those 9 points were scored within two minutes of the game. If the defense held server, we're looking at overtime most likely where anything is possible. If the Bills didn't score that touchdown, the game plan would be different and you're looking at a tied game with a chance to win with a field goal. They wouldn't have gone for it on fourth down and wouldn't have led to the last field goal. That touchdown pretty much ended the game.

The way you should look at it is that the Bills played great defense the rest of the game. The Texans played good defense for two series.

You're right, that is important. Our offense did all they could to keep up, when they're not the strong suit of our team. It's valiant.

Bills are the same way, even though they have more talent on offense.

The first series after we had our game-tying TD:

    • Bills start from their 25yd line; 3 & out. Punt to our 20yd line (T.O.P: 2:30min)
    • Texans at 20yd line: penalty that pushed us back to (1 & 20yd); 3 & out (T.O.P:2 minutes)
    • Bills at 45yd line(Orig: Buff 24 yd line. penalty on Blue.). Bills 3 & out (T.O.P: 1:20).
    • Texans at 6yd line: 3 & out (T.O.P: 1min)
    • Bills at 35yd line: D broke here and gave up a TD after 2min warning

Yea, I guess mainly offensive & ST penalties that killed it.

As soon as we had the game-tying TD, that pretty much was like OT. It was a new game at that point.

Both teams had same amount of series and the offense kept digging our D into a bigger hole and expecting them to hold every time. If our O can't do it during that 9 minutes, they weren't gonna do anything in OT.

And that is the difference in the game; the "D broke here and gave up a TD after a 2min warning". The Bill's D did not break and give up a TD. The Bills played defense the whole game.

If you're giving credit to the Texans defense, how about give credit to the Bills defense? They obviously did a better job. Their defense held on while the Texans' defense did not.
