Which is fine. Discourse is more important than coming to an agreement. I have no problem discussing things with people that don't agree, and I do like to try to see where others are coming from in their reasoning even if I disagree with them.
Yeah, but the discourse is now just going in circles. I think we have enough to see the other side so what's the point?
First off, if you are not racist why do you care who uses it? Do you want to use it so bad you want a justifiable reason to use it? Second, I am black and from the hood and do not use the word. Although when I hear it between blacks it doesn't make my stomach turn like when I hear a white person use it. I will not let my children use it and if I see children using it I will educate them and ask why they speak like ignorant klansmen towards each other. I know we cannot desolve its usage among adults, but we can prevent the infection of the word in our children. Do not let your children use that word, we need to move on from those times. Third, if you are going to use it, expect hostility.
It sends a mixed message to Caucasians; and inhibits their ability and, subconsciously, their willingness to interact with us, which in turn limits our ability to assimilate and advance in a society where they're 70% of the population. It also makes us look as unsophisicated as the white people who actually use the word. At Subway: six-inch Turkey sub, with lettuce, provolone and mayo. At Wendy's: Jr. Cheeseburger, with ketchup, lettuce and mayo.
Maybe they didn't want kids at the party taking the pictures down, then denying the party ever happened. That would be my reasoning.
Something I failed to mention when I posted. The word "*****" is somewhat of a new term. Rap lyics, comedians, etc., used to use the word ****** to describe other African Americans. So saying that ***** has a different meaning is crap, it's just been shortened (slang) like many other words.
I'm doubtful of that. I would have to verify to be sure, but I thought there were passages in Malcolm X's autobiography about usage of the term, which may have been spelled "er" but still pronounced with the "ah" sound.

as well as pulp fiction... Franchise Blade will tell you that we must never allow that stereotype to persist - because someday thinking blacks don't like mayo might lead to a Holocaust.
What I'm more concerned about is that the use of the word ***** by some in the black community might lead to its acceptance in communication by society. I see it happening. Kids are growing up saying this word whereas when I was a kid it was expressly forbidden. Good Luck! Brock
Few things in life stay the same over time. I'm certain the word will continue to evolve as it has since it's Latin origins.
I thought Pulp Fiction made the claim that French people ate french fries with mayonnaise. I suppose if I had lived in France my entire life, I might have something to say about that, one way or another. Thinking blacks don't eat mayo might not lead to a holocaust, but "learning" about an entire race, at the expense of logic, from an Eddie Griffin/Denise Richards movie might not do too much for one's credibility. Are there Burger chains, Subway Shops, Delis and Grocery stores in predominantly Black neighborhoods? Is it reasonable to expect a Black person to possibly eat potato salad or cole slaw, both of which include mayonnaise?
It's also worth considering that these (presumably) black comedians and rap artists had to have picked it up (the self-deprecating usage) from somewhere. And if some of them grew up in predominantly black neighborhoods, where would they have heard it?
I'm saying that the stereotype is ignorant. And don't be a jerk. It isn't just what I am telling you, it is what people who managed to live through concentration camps and survived it all say. I also said I wasn't going to go through on a case by case scenario of which ones might end up causing the kind of dehumanizing and erasing of individuality that is dangerous. You can make jokes about what lead to the holocaust if you want, but it is really pretty assholish. That kind of ignorance is exactly what we need to be on guard against.
