My balls feel tingly just watching the video. I used to rock climb, hence my moniker, but 1700 feet straight up is just plain scary. Climbing on the inside of the tower is not so dangerous. If he falls back, he has something to grab. I also noticed there are two guys climbing. Maybe the bottom guys is belaying the top guy. However, I don't see any rope, so maybe not. If you want to see something really cool and freaky. Do a google image search on portaledge.
You have got to be kidding me!!! There is no way in hell i'd ever do that. Not for all the money in the world. Hell, I almost pissed in my pants looking out the tower of terror at Disneyworld lol. Sweaty hands for sure...
I bet that's just a starter salary on the pay scale... wished the per-hour rate was on a per-foot-of-antennae-height basis...
Here is a video of Lynn Hill is one of the best climbers ever climbing up the needle in Yosemite. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2KlA77j6xAc?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2KlA77j6xAc?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
I would that is a lot of $$$ but holy crap that is insane .. one small misstep or mishap and you're doomed
ive never been that high, but i used to climb for centerpoint. went 900 feet in an elevator once. i didnt have to free climb because we were at the top. also, centerpoint requires pelican hooks at that height. but i wasnt doin that for $15 an hour. $30 a day per diem. id like to try 1700 feet. but im not gonna lie. would be trippin balls.
Why is the face of his climbing partner blurred out... afraid his mom might see it and have a heart attack? And what exactly goes on at the top of the needle... engineering wise.
"Where the heck did I park my car? There it is." "Crap, I gotta go pee... oh, well, it will disintegrate by the time it reaches the ground... " I watched it again... just to get used to it... I like how, at the end, the dude just sits there for a couple of seconds, then we see a nice surprise, then he ties himself to the antenna again. Also, the last scene reminds me of Wayne's World.
You better have trustworthy co-workers or that sumbitch gonna pull on that tool bag and you come falling down like rain, lol...
This would be a great challenge in the Amazing Race. Also, I wonder how they managed to construct that tower? With 1700-foot scaffolds?
How the hell are they going to get down?!? They would have to get a helicopter or something to get me I would either die of a heart attack or be stuck up there frozen like a cat in a tree. EDIT: $14-15!?!?! LOLOLOLOL
