Actually I was expecting a Ken Burns documentary. I wasn't expecting this to be a National Geographic special but was expecting some internal consistency and while it not being historical maybe not warping history so much. Even dropping whether there was any history at all I still thought a lot of the rest of it to be problematic in its celebration of honor taken to the point of practically being a cult of death and in the depictions of good guys as practically being straight Aryans while the bad guys were dark skinned sexually deviant multi-culturalists. Especially considering that the Spartans were probably bigger boy lovers than the Athenians. Its not just a movie with a historical basis that distorts history but a movie about manhood that presents a very distorted version of manhood. Again I understand that its primarily about entertainment and it was very entertaining but I think it is far from a great movie and other than visuals isn't that good of a movie. Anyway since this is the D & D I was primarily commenting on controversial cultural and historical parts of it. I'm NOT planning on protesting it but as I said I can see why people would find it offensive.
Just to be clear, I didn't think it was a "great movie." I thought it was immensely entertaining. (at least that's what I remember posting! ) Are you really thinking about protesting the film? Just curious... have you ever gone out in the street to protest, carrying a sign and shouting slogans? It can be a trip! D&D. Finger Food.
I have a feeling he meant to say he wasn't plannning on protesting..just left out "not." At least that's how it reads to me.
I think Sishir just forgot to type the "not" part. Otherwise, I completely agree with his analysis of the movie. It was visually pleasing but otherwise extremely lacking, even by your typical comic book movie standards.
It was the Persians who abolished slavery and preached equality. unfortunately the western propaganda has the west believing believing us persian's are evil blood thirsty humanbeings.
They treat them like crap. maybe you should go and see for you'reself. see how many innocent students are arrested daily. go see how the teachers are not being paid. go see how political prisnores are being treated.
Actually the religious morons in irn hate anything to do with the persian empier. khomenie and he's other mollah fanatics have allways labeled the ancient persian kings as immoral and fre worshipping kings. they call the persian new year noorouz evil and would stop it if they could. they hate anything pre-islam. it's the iranian people who are outraged.
