If both the kooky left & the nutjob right are unhappy with Obama, he must be doing a pretty damn good job.

    Agreed.

This is precisely the path most of us expected him to take.

I find it hilarious that people still use the word "war" here.

This was the right decision by Obama. As a moderate, I was fearful that Obama would cave to his liberal base and just pull out of afghanistan.

But he's showing that he will make the RIGHT decisions, not necessarily the ones that in his best short term political interest.

America would love him to end the war in Afghanistan. Call it quits, and leave.

But this is the most important war we have fought in over 50 years. This is more important than Iraq 1, Iraq 2, Vietnam, and the Korean War COMBINED.

This isn't an ideaological war against communism. This is the war on terror. If we fail here, Al Qaeda emerges victories. The Taliban and Al Qaeda get away with what they did on 9/11 and we know these guys - they will strike again.

Shall we wait for another 9/11, perhaps next time with a nuke that came from Pakistan? Do we really want to face the nightmare of a major U.S. port city going up in a mushroom cloud?

This is what is at stake here. Because Pakistan is not in great shape and they have nukes. Al Qaeda and the Taliban want those nukes. And they operate in two countries.

    please

It is well documented that Palin has a very thin skin and has no compunction about going after political opponents.

But lets not derail the thread now hum?

He said 16 months for getting troops out of Iraq though. Looks like that was a load of crap.

    LOL, are you cheney?

The taliban can get all the nukes they want. We need to stop them from getting to america. As far as I know nuclear are really big and heavy, and I doubt Pakistan has the capability to launch them here.

Do you pay attention to history? Maybe the US allies itself with the taliban in 10-15 years. Heck they helped arm and train them. You could put a million troops there, but how long to you plan to keep them there

People are tired of Afghanistan. Democracies do not fight long wars well. Every war becomes unpopular over time.

Again, all our Afghanistan options suck.

Of all the possible people who might be in a position to direct our path in Afghanistan, Obama's by far the best choice, save Gore in 2001.

Was that poll taken before or after the speech at West Point?

You can't be so naive my friend.

They can get all the nukes they want? Dude, you think the Taliban are going to build a rocket and launch a missile at us? NO! Once a bomb is out of Pakistan, we're in big trouble.

It's not hard to move a nuke on a boat from pakistan to say the Caribbean. And once there, it's easy as pie to sail to a place like Miami right up next to the city, and then just detonate the device. Bomb - nightmare realized.

You can't defend our ports or the homeland through increased security - this was the proof point of 9/11.

We must stabalize Pakistan and Afghanistan and if you think leaving is going to do that - look what happened the last time we left!

You need to study your more recent history - because apparently you forget that the Taliban came to power when the Soviets and the U.S. just abandoned the region. Now...you want to do that again?

    Really?

9/11 didn't happen because of a flawed national security policy it happened because the policy was not executed properly on multiple levels.
