No I am not posting pics.
Yes she does. She is going to stay with me for a while, but she wants to move to New York. I'm trying to convince her not to.
She wants to get a masters here.
She was thinking about doing to student Visa, but unsure how useful/successful that will be when she gets here, and after she graduates.

    Thanks

If she takes the legal route to America it could be years......why not just take the illegal route and soon she'll be granted amnesty!

Try Visa Journey There are a lot of knowledgeable people on that site that will help her through the process.

They don't need a tourist visa. Anything longer than 90 days, in pretty much any country, means you need a residence visa.

Why are you convincing her not to move to NYC? Coming from London, moving to the US and settling in Houston would be really underwhelming for her. If she's from London, she's already used to high cost of living, so there wouldn't be any sticker shock by moving to NYC. Might as well do it big.

Tell her to immigrate to Canada first, get her Canadian citizenship in three years (it's really that fast), and then move down on a work permit. That or marry an American.

How long does it take a foreigner to get American citizenship these days?

5 years of permanent residency, with some requirement of time spent in country.

My wife and I have been married for 3+ years and she just received her permanent residency about a month ago. It takes a lot of money and a lot of time. It is absolutely ridiculous. That was the first step to getting citizenship.

We went to Sweden last summer and we went, filled out a form, gave them copies of our marriage license, paid $80, and a week later I received my passport back with my permanent residency visa inside..

Also, my wife came over on a student visa. A student visa DOES NOT allow someone to work.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it does allow them to work for the school, right?

She doesnt need to, but she wants to. Why not support a friend huh?

She said the same thing. She's always wanted to live in New York. Oh and I wasnt necessarily convincing her to move to Houston.... kinda...because I'm thinking about moving as well, pending on where I go for grad or vet school.

Lol we talked about the marrying an american part. Then divorce. Dont know how succesful that will be. lol.. Just some random thoughts. lol

If she'll be going to school, she should contact one that interests her and talk about her options. They'll have dealt with this before re: student visas and work.

If she just wants to work, she may be best getting a job with a UK company that transfers her to the US or has a US branch.

In my experience, work permits for foreigners are job specific -- you need the job before you get it, and the permit is only good for that job. There are exceptions for certain professionals. A general green card is expensive and involved. Possibly less so then a quicky marriage, but not by much.
