I'm with you and having a hard time pulling the trigger. Amazon gets positive reviews but what a pain it would be to ship it back if something went wrong.
So are these better? http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LNT40...4?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1200679067&sr=1-4 http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LNT40...5?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1200679067&sr=1-5 http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-L...?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1200679067&sr=1-24
I researched it a lot and that is the one major problem I kept reading over and over about the samsung 5271 and 5265 series. I read every review on Amazon.com and that point came up many times. The plasma I got has an anti reflection filter, so there will be no glare on it. I personally prefer the plasma PQ to the LCD PQ. Of course that is my opinion. I would say that if you are looking into LCD's the best for the price are the 5271 and 5265 series of samsung's.
What screen size are you looking for? I just completed months of in depth research and looking at many tv's before I finally settled on my purchase so maybe some of what I learned can help you.
just to jump in here im getting 2 tv's for my parents and have done a good amount of research as well but wanted to see what you thought. they are supposed to be picking up one of their tvs tonight at best buy the samsung 4069 (120hz) for 1469-pricematched to frys, assuming everything goes smoothly I think its a great deal.. the 2nd tv i am still not sure of, looking for a 46in to hang, can only be 48in wide....considering sticking with the samsung 120hz series and getting the 4671 from circuit city at around 2300 which i know I can find a little cheaper online... thoughts?
I am really more price driven to be honest. I wanted to stay in the $1,000 range. It seems like everything right around $1,000 was a secondary brand. Then I saw the Sony. I would be fine with a 40" TV. May pay a little more for a bigger one but I want to stay as close to the lower $1,000's as possible. Thanks....
Amazon: Samsung 4671 At Amazon the set shows for $2154.99 and the shipping is free. Amazon is a good place to order online if you want to save a little money, but if the money is going to be close I would say just get it from the store. I heard a lot of good things about the 4671. The only drawback I heard was the glare from the screen in a well lit room, and the 120hz does not work like it should. A lot of people have been noticing some TBE(tripple ball effect) and studdering. This has been made better by turing off the 120hz. So a lot of people I saw there have that setting turned off and that is the only difference between that and the 4671 and the 4665. Since that feature has had a lot of problems you might want to consider getting the 4665. The 4665 cost $1674.99 at amazon. Just some food for thought.
Yea i read about the TBE effect and read how to turn it off, seemed liked samsung was working on a fix and that the TBE effected mostly the earlier production tvs but it could effect them all. from my understanding it wasnt a 100% error but like you said might be better to go with the 4665. im hoping to see what my parents think of the 4069 before we purchase the 46in....appreciate the input
Personally I like Samsung's because I feel they give you the same PQ as a Sony for a much smaller price. You said you were looking at the sony for $1299 at best buy, well for $1359.98(free shipping) you can get the Samsung 4065 which I think is a superior tv to the sony you linked to. Your blacks will be much better with the Samsung because it has a contrast ratio of 15000:1 while the sony only has 7000:1
I agree, the blacks in the Samsung will probably be better. But you can't compare contrast ratio data across different manufacturers. The numbers mean pretty much nothing unless comparing two models from the same brand. 5000:1 for Sony and 5000:1 from Samsung are completely different things.
No problem. I think the 120hz can be a wonderful feature if done correctly, but the initial implementation has shown some problems. I just think it is not a good idea to spend $500 more for one feature that you might not even want to use. Good luck on your purchase! I was so worried about spending so much money on a tv I almost made myself sick from thinking and researching so much. I am like a kid at christmas time waiting for mine to arrive this is the one I finally settled on 58' Samsung plasma
I agree, but with a gap that big there will be some difference. When you start to get into these big sets getting good blacks becomes a big factor(at least to me)
If it's a flatscreen TV, I don't mind getting it from an e-tailer. I've bought 2 LCD TVs that way and haven't had problems with either. Barring a really good sale at a B&M or some generous salesperson who's willing to pricematch online, you'll end up saving hundreds of bucks buying it on the net. Now my 60" SXRD TV in the living room I bought from Tweeter. That's a little too large to entrust to UPS.
UPS doesn't deliver the big TV's. My 52" LCD is being delivered by a freight company (http://www.myyellow.com) and it cost me zero extra. I love the fact that I get the TV at a great price, pay no taxes, and get free shipping. I made the order on Wednesday and it should be here on Monday. edit: Mine is coming from Montana.
I'm not knocking the shipping companies. I just meant for me personally, I like the peace of mind I get from buying a 60" bigscreen TV at a B&M. That peace of mind costs several hundred extra bucks, but it's worth it to me.
well, i don't know if you know my story. but when i got my tv in 2006 on a black friday sale online. the tv was DOA, must have been dropped off the crane. i was really ticked. but i got another one 1 week later.
