I hadn't planned on buying an HDTV because I didn't think it was really worth it, but after seeing this at Wal-Mart, I thought maybe I should reconsider. Does anyone have any opinions on this TV, its a 42" Sanyo Plasma: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4529485 I really like the price and I've never seen an HDTV of comparable size for such a low price. The reviews say that the TV has pretty good picture quality.
NEW QUESTION: I bought an HDTV about a month ago. I'm on Comcast. When I first got the tv the non-HDTV channels would not fill the entire screen, just the 4:3 format. Well, I noticed in the last week that EVERY channel is filling the 16:9 format, but I have no idea how this happed. Is this a Comcast thing or did I accidently push a button on my remote without realizing I had a "fill screen" mode or something? Don't get me wrong, I like it better this way, I'm just wondering how it happened.
You may have changed the mode on your TV to stretch or full screen. Does the image appear stretched or are images cropped on your TV? The reason I ask is because when I first set up my Comcast DVR, I had to change the settings on the box to display in HD. It involved holding the "Guide" and "Info" button on the box (not the remote) while the box is powered off. It will then display the HD setup screen where you can setup the display.
[On]Horse racing announcer voice[/Off] "And down the wire they come, tinman, Jugdish and OldManBernie are neck and neck! Jugdish in the lead by a hair. Oh wait, here comes OldManBernie storming ahead. Will he be the first to respond. OldManBernie sneaking by tinman and Jugdish...what's this?!?, jugdish and Bernie get briefly tangled up, tinman storms by, and, YES! tinman takes to flag and is the first to respond. Jugdish recovers to finish in second, with OldManBernie just behind to round out the top three. Great finish today, folks."
Aha...I checked the cable box settings and somehow it got put on "stretch" instead of "normal". While looking under settings I noticed that my video was set on "fixed". The other options are: Upconvert-1 Upconvert-2 Auto DVI-HDMI Fixed I'm assuming it should be on HDMI if that's the type cable I'm using???? Also, as far as audio range settings go the options are: Wide, Narrow and Normal. Mine were set on Narrow. What should this be set on? I have a 5 speaker surround system.
I have this problem as well, it's irritating, esp. when before I could decide on whether or not I wanted it to stretch the screen.
I love my 42' Plasma. It's heavy, burns a lot of energy, but i have to say watching planet earth on it has been one of the most awesome television experiences.
If your HDTV has a "QAM tuner" and you subscribe to basic non-HD channel cable, you can still view HD network channels (ABC, NBC, FOX) on cable without buying their expensive HD tier. It takes some time to search for the stations, but they're there. The cable hd channels are scrambled, and you do have to buy it.
This is the TV I've been looking at past couple months. You probably did good for yourself skipping this one, because this and other sizes of Sharp LCDs are notorious for banding (faded or discolored horizontal or vertical bars on the screen). If you put "banding" & "hdtv" in google, Sharp Aquos comes up 90% of the time.
good. Yeah, I went with a Sony KDL-V2500 (40 inch LCD). I got 18 months no interest on it. I read tons of reviews on other TV's and most said that "X" brand or model TV was as good or almost as good as a Sony, so I figured I would go ahead and get a Sony. I'm loving it, but I am sure that there are cheaper models that are just as good/better than the one I have. I loved the pictures on the plasmas, but was afraid of burn in, though I have read it isn't as much of an issue as it used to be. But I watch a ton of ESPN with the bar on the bottom, so it scared me away
Widescreen question: Why do some movies still have the letterbox when I'm watching them on my widescreen? It's like the original film was filmed with an even wider aspect ratio.
If anyone's still in the market for an HDTV, the 60" Sony SXRD is going for a ridiculously low price at Circuit City. It's only 2100 bucks. And the 2nd link below takes you to a page where you can get a 10% off coupon for CC if you're a AAA member. So before tax, you're paying under $1900. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony...71437/catOid/-12867/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do http://ww1.aaa.com/scripts/WebObjec...ircuitCity&association=aaa&club=252&zip=77042
Still hoping someone can answer this for me: While looking under settings on my cable box I noticed that my video was set on "fixed". The other options are: Upconvert-1 Upconvert-2 Auto DVI-HDMI Fixed I'm assuming it should be on HDMI if that's the type cable I'm using???? What does upconvert mean? Also, as far as audio range settings go the options are: Wide, Narrow and Normal. Mine were set on Narrow. What should this be set on? I have a 5 speaker surround system.
upconvert means if its crap video, it will be crap video at your highest resolution. i have the same settings. fixed is fine, it gives you more screen ratio options when u press the # button. Keep it on normal.
you still see a picture right out of your hdmi cable right? so mess around with it. you'll notice that the only difference is the number of aspect ratio choices.
