Exactly how bad do you need cash right now, Rock3t Man? 'Cause I've got Comcast and I wouldn't mind flowing $50 to you for some quick upgrades.

DD is correct about the right to work state. It will likely not stand in court unless you had a lawyer representing you at the time you signed it. BTW, the courts look down severely on any contract when one party had a lawyer and the other did not. Found that out with a pre-nup that did not stand in court, but thats another story.

Two years are pretty typical for a non-compete clause that many people are required to sign when they begin their employment. If your previous employer was holding your last check over your head in order to get you to sign the non-compete then you signed it under duress and the courts will really look down on your previous employer.

To make a long story short, you should be fine but I would spend the 40 or 100 dollar consultation fee with a lawyer just to make sure what the possible ramifications could be. I have some personal experiences that with business relations gone bad because I had bad info that one hour with a lawyer would have cleared up. Piece of mind is worth it and a public forum should never be your final answer on legal questions.

    This.

Texas is a friendly state when it comes to work. I've heard of many cases where the non-compete contracts aren't even enforceable.

I thought he kept putting Comcast in quotes because it wasn't actually Comcast, but a similar company?

Yeah I warned them that the "fakes" would be coming in soon and they should be wary. Showtime for all of January!

The most interesting part of this thread would most likely be why the OP got fired in the first place.

Probably a pretty relevant piece of information for the new client to know also.
