I was thinking of this build. I would totally recommend this if all you do is surf the web and watches videos. If you don't play games at all I would recommend sneaking in a 30 or 32GB SSD drive for your main operating system and use the HDD for your storage.

I ended up buying the one I linked to. It was actually $100 when you put in that coupon code.

I got the video card recommended by some here.

    Thanks for your help!

Dang I was going to say you could have built one yourself and saved 250-300$

Oh well, that comp will fit your needs just fine.

You are right, the hardware runs much faster without the whole operating system thing getting in the way. You guys should see how fast I can blaze through the BIOS on my machine. It's breathtaking.

Good choice, I recommended the video card with DVI out because the monitors that come with the deal have DVI and HDMI but no VGA; I thought it was a little silly for Dell to recommend a video card with VGA.

Let us know how it works out :D

The point is genius, as I said before, is that buying a bunch of expensive parts to make your computer fast is a waste of money as the return on investment diminishes steeply due to nothing but WINDOWS itself refusing to move faster.

Throwing a 1000 dollars worth of expensive parts at the problem will yield you limit return. That, and that alone is what I am saying.

if you are a gamer than yeah you need some stuff, but if you aren't, then you aren't going to see much difference. And my point remains that Windows is the biggest bottleneck to ANY system.

I wouldn't call myself a genius. I mean I have worked in IT for 14 years so i know a thing or two, but there is always more to learn. Thanks though, I'll take it :) .

He maybe doing a poor job of explaining himself, but he's simply trying to explain that the OP doesn't need a bunch of high end hardware to fit his needs. Why would anyone recommend an SSD harddrive for streaming and pirating software? My 3 year old ragity $250 black friday laptop still does all of that just fine...and I struggle running flash games on it.

No point spending double or triple for hardware performance in which you will never see.
