Oh okay, i didn't see that b/c i was trying it on finalsbound, i guess he's got his email private so you can't. Thanks and i'll update you with situation and if i go to your clinic when i find out more info.
As I said in the response to Han Solo, read this book, or any ADHD book. It'll tell you everything you need to know before seeing a doctor. Its a good investment to make before dropping big bucks and time on a doctor.
If I drink Coffee late at nite I can be tired but cannot sleep well. IT is very fitful. I feel better after coffee in the morning. So, I dunno if that disqualiffies me from the ADHD debate. Rocket River
I'm drinking a starbucks frap drink that apparently has 70-75 mg of caffeine tonight when im ready to sleep. I'll update. I'm kind of worried that if i don't have ADHD, i'll have something much more threatening wrong upstairs. =(
Not sure it disqualifies you but it is a data point. Tonight I made coffee for us. She is now sounds asleep and I am up. Last night, no coffee. I was asleep by 9, lol, and she didn't get in bed till after midnight. Small sample size but it's an interesting observation. Caffeine often has the opposite effect on ADHD people. This is googleable however not too much info about it prob cause folks shouldn't be trying to self medicate in general. That said, caffeine is easily the most consumed drug out there. It's pretty safe and effects are well known.
Keep in mind, those kinds of drinks like Fraps can be full of sugar that counteract the effect. Straight coffee would be better.
Personally, coffee keeps me awake but it doesn't amp me up like other people. When I get a caffeine buzz, it makes me quiet and almost stoned not hyper like normal people.
Although krosfyah is technically correct, I wouldn't put too much stock into the coffee test. There are many different types of medication out there and they affect each person differently. I had to go through 3 different types of medication before I found something that worked for me.
Not all medicines work for everyone the same. I can't deal with ritalin/concerta and my nephew can't deal with adderall. My friend took adderall and prozac together. Everyone is different.
Yup. Adderall made me feel really, really awful. Ritalin, the same. I've just tried to live with the symptoms.
This is very true. Its just a cheap and low risk test that you can do yourself. A Dr would NEVER tell you this, of course, because of liability in this day and age. But again, this is low risk. Another consideration that many Docs might not tell you or may de-emphasize is ADAH might be just a symptom of something else. And diet or even food allergies can be the root cause. For diet, cut out most sugar and add more protein esp at breakfast. But it may be more complicated around an actual food allergy in which you need to do some trial and error to find the source. There is a lot of info on the web about possible sources. For my daughter, we cut out milk and that seemed to help a little.
Nice. No sarcasm here. That was nice. I liked it. Points off for the misspelling and grammatical incorrectness, though.
Well I aced that quiz so I most likely have adult ADHD. I took some Adderall once and it was like life slowed down and I could finally live normally. Maybe its time to get on the horse.
No....There is an adjustment period for stimulants, just like with most everything else. So, feeling jittery initially isn't the be-all, end-all of determining effectiveness. In fact, they usually start you at a low dose, and then build up to a level effective for the individual. Some anxiety and/or "jitters" is expected when you're first starting out. There are some similarities, but no, whether you can or can't sleep after drinking coffee doesn't qualify or disqualify ADD/ADHD. A few more things: There are two classifications to consider - it's ADD/ADHD, or more correctly, ADD Inattentive-Type (in other words, your mind wanders and you can't focus/pay attention, and hyperactivity is not present), and ADD Hyperactive-Type (the bouncing-off-the-walls variety). The inattentive-type is what you usually see in young-to-adolescent girls and adults of both genders, while the hyperactive type is almost exclusive in young-to-adolescent boys. Because the hyperactive-type is much more visible and disruptive, it is easier to catch and diagnose, whereas the inattentive-type doesn't really stand out, and often results in being labeled as "stupid," "lazy," etc. Now, just because one gender is more prone to a particular type doesn't mean it is exclusive to that gender. Far from it. I have the inattentive variety, and "inattentive variety" doesn't just mean you struggle to pay attention at school, work, whatever. You often see the inattentive-type with multiple, unfinished projects going on at once, and the next thing they know, they simply have too many unfinished projects at one time, can't focus on any of them, and nothing gets finished. These folks usually get the "lazy procrastinator" label. You also often see the inattentive type easily able to focus on things that interest them, while they have trouble focusing on topics that don't interest them. "Well, duh," some of you might be thinking, but you'd be wrong: think of the boring classes and/or work meetings/seminars, etc. Sure these things are mind-numbingly awful, but you legitimately need to be paying attention, and the more you try to do so, the faster your mind wanders to that time you burned off your eyebrows when you were 13 and playing with fire. Someone already mentioned anxiety and depression. All these things go hand-in-hand. Think about this way: you struggle in school, teachers label you as lazy/slow/stupid, then you get anxious about your inability to perform, and then you get depressed because you start to believe the lazy/slow/stupid label. In other words, one thing affects the other. As to myself, I wasn't diagnosed until I was in my late 20's. I'm in my mid-30's now. I look back on a variety of instances when I was younger, when, had someone gotten me to a damn doctor, my academic and early-professional life just might've been a whole hell of a lot easier. That's all I've got for now. I just finished my 3rd 12-hour shift in a row and I'm damn tired, so I hope this all makes sense. I'm an RN at a psych hospital, so, any questions....feel free to email me through the board. And now I'm going to bed. My Vyvanse wore off hours ago.
See, when i read about the inattentive stuff, it sounds just like me. And i feel all the depression did start up at an early age when everyone made me feel stupid or slow by trying to get my parents to go to school and ask silly questions(my dad said they basically asked him if he beat me lol and him storming out with his **** this attitude made it worse-not to mention he cussed them all out). I was held back in 6th grade which was a massive blow that i didn't really think mattered at that time(it hit me when my original friends went to high school and i was still in middle school.) There is another major hit to me where i convinced myself i was just r****ded that ruined my dream, but i'd rather not talk about it openly here.
I have no job right now and i am trying to get myself in school, need to take placement tests. Is it safe and cheaper for me to find someone to buy some Adderall to take and see how it feels b4 i take that test? Is it dangerous if i end up not having ADHD and having something else?
