I may be "unfocused" and "attention-deprived" but it's mostly because I might not be interested. I struggled to listen to a training session for my work, but then the dude started talking my language (web suff, linux adminisration, scripting, the exciting stuff!) and I was 100% attentive.

I don't believe drugs or pills shoud help me with something I can fix myself, like for example, clearing my head. I like a challenge. Paying attention is a good challenge for me.

You learn to deal with some of these things. If you (and I'm not just talking to you Mr. River) can fix it on your own, by all means TRY. If you know you can't, seek help.
I have personally seen you go through it. I somewhat saw that you're already thinking about your next "move" through your body language. You're a busy dude and it's expected, though I have only seen you in a "professional" level and don't know if you are like this outside of the stage.

hay guyz it's all in your head! i know this because what's true for me is always true for EVERYBODY!!!! and by all means, if you don't challenge yourself like MEEE, or if you fail, that means you're LAZY and you need to TRY HARDER.  ;)

ADHD comorbidity (accompanying conditions) is very common, usually depression and anxiety, taking care of the ADHD could alleviate those conditions as well.

First thing you need to do is read some books on adult ADHD, this one is excellent. Its structure is very good for people with ADHD, you can jump around and read only the parts you want. Its best to know everything you can before deciding if you want to get diagnosed or not.

I was uninsured when I first got diagnosed and seeing a doctor and receiving treatment is definitely not cheap, but there are a lot of ways around that. Call around to different psychiatrist to see what it would cost for a diagnosis, the initial consultation is the most expensive. Lots of doctors give discounts to uninsured pateints, just ask about it. I paid $300 for the initial consultation and $60 (normally $100) for the follow up appointments. As for medication, it can be expensive depending on which route you take. Adderall is the most popular medication and generics cost about $55 for a months supply, could be more if you need higher dosages. Generic Ritalin is dirt cheap, as its on Walmart's $4 generic program. If you need some of the more expensive meds, then its possible you can receive patient assistance from the pharmaceutical company that makes the medication (I got a year supply of vyvanse for free from such a program).

Regardless of the cost, seeing a doctor and seeking treatment is something you should strongly consider. Beg, borrow or steal(or not), do whatever it takes to find the money for it. It may very well turn your life around for the better, and the cost would pale in comparison if that happens.

It sounds like you are in a similar situation that I was in not long ago, so if you have any more questions, feel free to PM me through the board.

My daughter was recently diagnosed as ADHD. Turns out it is often hereditary and my wife suspected she is too. One day she took my daughter's Ritalin and she described it as:

Normally my life feels like driving down a freeway and everything in my periphery is blurred. After taking Ritalin, everything in my periphery comes into focus.

One difference between my wife and I is she can drink coffee and slip right into bed. It should be mentioned that caffeine is a very similar stimulant as Ritalin which acts on he same neural receptors in your brain. If you are ADD, this class of stimulants acts as a calming agent rather than like speed as it does for the rest of us. If you can drink coffee and go straight to sleep, you might be ADHD.

I never drink coffee b/c it destroys my stomach and gives me the runs.

As far as hereditary, my mother always struck me as a person who had issues. Don't know for sure and i wouldn't ask her. She did try and commit suicide when i was a kid. But, besides that and her crazy screaming, i don't know much else.

I saw this thread when it was only one post and I almost posted a countdown until SwoLy went all Tom Cruise on us. It's like the sun coming up in the East or passing kidney stones.

I was told i had personality disorder in the military after i started losing it and being sent to a chaplain who only tried to talk to me about god. I was later told by a recruiter when trying to go back in that all it meant was i had bad conduct and got into fights(which is correct).

    Thank You.
A friend who is a nurse asked me about it
    If I had been checked.
I have not and well . . .. I find I have been unfocused at times
    and that is rather bothersome.

Mostly I toss it up to just being lazy or procrastnaion
but she things it maybe something more
    *shrug*
    Like you . . I don't think I want any medication
    but
I figured I should at least explore the question.

my therapist was catholic. that was one of the reasons i had to quit seeing her. she was judgy about my relationship and insinuated several times that i needed to give god a second chance. oh it was awesome, just like visiting my parents.

There are plenty of ways to take caffeine. Basically 100mg of caffeine (about one 8oz cup) is equal to about 5mg of Ritalin. You can buy Crystal Light with caffeine now (60mg). Or you can just buy caffeine pills. Lots of ways other than coffee.

You may want to try and see how it makes you feel. If it makes you feel jittery and anxious then you are normal. If it makes you feel calm and slows things down, then you might be ADHD. Its a low risk cheap test.

I remember when i first joined and we were giving info for our Dog Tags, i wanted no religion on it. I received my dog tags with catholic of course since i have a spanish name. They wouldn't let me change it.
When everything was falling apart in the end and they sent me to the Chaplain I remember laughing when i told the chaplain that i don't believe in God and for him to please figure out something else to say other than to talk to God, etc. He didn't say anything, i told him to please let me go b/c he couldn't help me. That's when i returned to the barracks and nearly did something stupid which resulted in me ultimately getting discharged.

Okay, yeah, ill try this out. This is a real test and if i'm normal with caffeine, there's something else wrong with me and it's definitely not ADHD?

Can you recommend some links to good products? I have two starbucks frappacinos, should i chug them both and see if that works?

I work at a clinic that can qualify you for a reduced rate based on your income. Psychiatrist visits range from $15-$75. Therapist visits $10-$50. Behavioral health is in high demand, so I'm not sure how long the wait will be, but if cost is a major issue, it might be worth the wait for you.
