Unbelievable. I always thought he'd be good in the NFL because of his body, but MAN. Remember when everyone was saying he was injury-prone? LOL.

He is sure making the 6 teams that passed on him look pretty stupid right about now.

1 Oakland JaMarcus Russell - QB
2 Detroit Calvin Johnson - WR
3 Cleveland Joe Thomas - OT
4 Tampa Bay Gaines Adams - DE
5 Arizona Levi Brown - OT
    6 Washington LaRon Landry - S

If i remember right AD said something along the lines of OU develops their players better, so he wanted to go to the place that would help him be a better football player, wasn't all about winning etc

the only one that is really arguable is Washington - Landry is a stud and they already have a lot of $$$ tied up in Clinton Portis, who is alos pretty good.

disagree somewhat. Calvin is/will be a stud in Detroit.. and Kevin Jones has looked solid since coming back from injury. I know AP could have run wild in that offense...but Calvin is a large upgrade over Furrey, even given his great year last year. (And over McDonald, who is having a solid year right now)

Well I definitely can't blame Oakland for drafting a quarterback, and I can't blame Detroit for drafting a guy who was considered the consensus best player. Also I'm willing to give a pass to Cleveland since it looks like Joe Thomas is working out pretty well for them... but hindsight is 20/20, and knowing what we know now, if I were the Raiders GM I might have still drafted this guy even though I needed a quarterback so badly (at the worst you could reach for Kevin Kolb in round 2).

    AP is just a freak.

Yeah, Kevin Jones is playing pretty well this season for Detroit and Calvin might end up being really great, but think about what that offense would be doing with AP (or AD...whatever...).

Yes, it's all hindsight, but that's what makes being a fan so much fun. Our jobs don't depend on it.

It depends on who else you had and the matchup. I almost benched him in one league for M.Lynch, who was projected to have a breakout game (and he did). I don't think anyone could have expected AP to break an NFL record and score 3 times against the Chargers.

Luckily I went with my gut and played him though. I drafted AP in all 3 of my leagues (including one dynasty) and he looks like my best pick, outside of the year L.Johnson finally took over for Priest mid-season.

I really wish the Texans coulda nabbed this kid………

I like AD as much as anyone but questions about his durability are still there. He runs very hard and it remains to be seen if he can keep this up. I still believe Calvin Johnson could end up being the top player in the draft and I still believe JaMarcus Russell will be the biggest bust in the draft.

And you don't think when Arkansas kids leave for LSU, or OKC kids leave for Texas, their local fan base don't take shots. Particularly when the kid announces at a press conference that he went to OU to "compete for championships" and dissing the UT program when he would actually won one (or two) NC and won the majority of Red River games IF he went his home states flagship university.

Of course I would needle him for that. I respect his talent and don't hate him (actually kinda like watchng him on sundays--enjoy his style and new he was much more of the real deal than Reggie Bush before stepping on NFL fields)--which all of VY haters around here have trouble doing. But a little ribbing, come on.

So all highly recruited high school athletes in the state of Texas should go to the University of Texas? And for those who choose not to, you say they made a mistake and you hold a grudge?

Wow, I always wondered why I hated UT and their fans. Now I know. Thanks for that. Geez.

Joe Thomas was a good pick for the Browns and he has not been a disappointment.

Desert_Rocket, do you disagree with the above???? You don't think AP is man enough to take a little ribbing for his ironic (seeing as how UT beat him 2/3 and won a NC) comments as a youth?

Get a skin folks, I even like Peterson, which haters of other special atheletes seem to have trouble doing because they played for a rival school.

NO. I think he could have gone to UH, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, etc... You act like The University of Texas is the only college in Texas.

That is what I have a problem with.

I think VY haters dislike him b/c of VY fans almost scary devotion, not the player himself (though I don't know, I like Vince but VOF's annoy me a bit)

Replying to an earlier post, I heard on the radio somewhere a while back that AD also was on a recruiting trip for UT and the UT fans were booing Texas for a bad showing and that turned him off. Like I said, heard it on a radio station, so take it for what it's worth

EDIT: think I quoted the wrong post :D

So you don't think it is ironic that AP had an offer for a UT scholarship, turned it down, and made public comments about the program/coaches, and then that program/coaches get a NC in that timeframe and spank him 2 of 3? Like I said, I am sure he can take the ribbing.

There are lots of other good schools in Texas, just as there are lots of good schools in Oklahoma, Ohio, Lousiana, Georgia, and Arkansas, etc. The bottom line is he crossed state lines when he did have an offer from the flagship home state University (annoying the state fan base and it didn't work out as good as it could have for him)

Besides, there are plenty of fine athletes w/o scholarship offers from UT to make some other competitive State of Texas based college athletic programs with, all the power to them ;)
