I'm going to guess he was disobeying cops orders to leave the bar past closing if not that than it looks pretty bad for HPD....

cops can pretty much arrest you for anything. if they want to arrest you they can arrest you

our judicial system makes it very hard for them to convict or charge you with random crap but police have wide discretion in that type of situation to arrest or detain you. with very little accountability.

unless he was high or something (in which case you could give him a pass for impaired judgment) it's a stupid lack of basic societal skills to get into it with a cop like that. they have water outside. the police want you out. what's there to think about?

someone in authority being disrespectful or stupid to you isn't really a good reason to put yourself into that situation regardless if you're a football player, white, black, french or w/e

as for why he's charged with resisting arrest and nothing else it's simple. when the cop attempted to take him into custody, he wouldn't have been charged with anything. he was being a jackass so they would arrest him or run him in and then probably let him go in the morning when he sobered up. but when he fought back during the arrest it became something seriously they could charge him for.

That was clearly a biased report from PFT. Let's wait to hear what happened before trashing HPD.

here's the story from the chronicle. different than PFT... I despise media bias

this story sounds like Peterson showed the cop some attitude and got what he had coming. then he acted like a titty baby at the jail complaining of "shortness of breath". what a p***y

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested early Saturday at a Houston nightclub and charged with resisting arrest.

He was released from the city jail hours later on $1,000 bond.

According to the Houston Police Department, the 27-year-old football star got into an argument with an officer working an extra job Live! at Bayou club, 534 Texas Ave., just after the club closed at 2 a.m.

The officer, whose name was not immediately available, approached Peterson, who was talking with a group of people next to the bar, as he began clearing the club, said department spokesman Kese Smith.

“The officer informed Peterson and the group that the bar was closed and asked them to walk toward the nearest exit,” Smith said.

The officer moved on to inform other patrons of the club’s closing and then returned to Peterson’s group, which was still talking at the bar, Smith said.

The officer again asked Peterson’s group to leave and turned away.

“That’s when Peterson told the officer that the group had heard him the first time and pushed the officer in the shoulder, causing him to stumble,” Smith said.

The officer responded by telling Peterson he was under arrest and asking him to turn around and place his hands behind his back, Smith said. Peterson began yelling at the officer, Smith said.

“As the officer attempted to place Peterson in handcuffs, Peterson pulled away from the officer and assumed an aggressive stance,” Smith said.

A second officer, an HPD sergeant also working an approved extra job at the club, tried to help with the arrest, Smith said.

Peterson struggled with both, drawing a third officer into the mix, Smith said.

Once handcuffed, Peterson was taken to the city jail at 61 Reisner St., where he complained of shortness of breath, Smith said. Houston Fire Department medical personnel who examined Peterson said he was fine, Smith said.

Peterson is a native of Palestine in East Texas and former tailback for the University of Oklahoma.

He is due July 13 in County Court at Law No. 3.

Peterson’s agent, Ben Dogra, did not immediately return phone calls.

Reporter Jerome Solomon contributed to this report.

You can despise media bias all you want but they just wrote up what they were informed per "a source".
The Chronicle got and used their own "source"= HPD.
I'm pretty sure HPD and the HPD officer that was in the encounter would like to frame events in their favour and perhaps the "source" that PFT heard from wanted to frame things in a different light. There might be bias on both sides, but we'll probably find out which side is telling something similar to the truth in the coming days or weeks.

cops are pretty shortsighted... theyll handcuff and arrest anybody because that the only thing they can really do in those situations. most cops cant solve any problems without using thei authority to handcuff, even if the situation doesnt warrant it. And obviously they arent going to report a story that might make them look bad in any situation

Business is closed, you want to keep your job which is escorting out drunks. Asking them nicely to leave a few times nets you hostility. What was the solution again? Let them stay there all night?

Anytime this happens to a celebrity people are all over the cops about it. He's lucky they didn't taser him.

He's Adrian Peterson man. He wanted some water. Give him the ****ing water. He's Adrian ****ing Peterson. He's better than us regular people and he's above the law, and most certainly allowed to drink some ****ing water. Just let him have the damn water. Jesus. Cops could have A. let him have some water or B. get into a ruckus, cause a scene, exert unneeded energy, risk injury, haul someone to jail, fill out paper work, etc... just ****ing give the guy some ****ing water. They already beat Donald Driver's dad half to death for wanting some beef jerky.
