No, what it means is that as you adjust to the medication, your appetite will return to normal. Should you and your doctor want to adjust the dosage, you may experience the decrease in appetite again, until your body adjusts once again. This does not mean a never ending cycle of increased dosages forever and ever, either. And while Red Chocolate is correct in that proper diet and regular exercise can help you feel better, Adderall is a common treatment for ADD/ADHD and it isn't going to kill you if you're not abusing it. To sum up: take it as prescribed and your appetite will return. If you find it isn't working as it once did, the doc may increase the dosage, and your appetite may have to adjust again. Questions: -How old are you? -What's your current dosage? -What are you taking it for? Work? School? If you only need it for school, for example, you don't have to take it when you don't have school....
1. 25 2. 5 mg instant release once a day. The lowest of the low 3. I take it for every facet of my life..... school, work, household chores because i get distracted and end up not completing one thing. It has a calming effect on me which is weird because it is a stimulant. I get a lot of exercise, but I eat junk food all day because it's good and I'm not overweight
well at least you're not taking huge doses. If your doc tries to up the dosage, that is a huge red flag, and you should definitely seek alternative methods. Your diet is bad, bad news, and is probably giving you low blood sugar and the tendency to 'crash' more often. I recommend incrementally adding some raw veggies, fruits, and nuts to your diet, and constantly drink a lot of water (no sodas if possible).
Then congratulations: you're young, normal, and you have ADD. It's really no big deal. And stimulants have that reversing effect on people with ADD. If you're happy and accomplishing your daily goals/tasks, then I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. I'm speaking as a current nursing student and former counselor at an inpatient psych hospital. I'm not a know-it-all nurse/doctor/shrink, but I've got a good base of knowledge on the subject. So keep up with your doctor appointments to let him know how it's working for you. If cost is an issue, he may be willing to do a phone consult so you can get your scripts refilled.
Thanks for your replies....I really hate vegetables, but I can eat sunflower seeds all day. As for the water I can do that and often do. If you don't mind me asking what do you do for a living? Also why would it be a red flag if he tries to increase my dose. Do you think it will end in addiction? Or is it flat out not good for me?
He wears a tinfoil hat and tries to hide from the government operatives lurking in the bushes. I keed, I keed.
Thank you for your replies as well. I really love this board not only for its laughs, but because of people like you who are willing to lend an ear and make an informed comment/concern.
STUPID QUESTION ALERT! do i need a prescription to buy adderall? or can i just go to the drug store without the doctors consent?
It is a schedule II controlled substance, the same as morphine and cocaine. That is the most tightly controlled substance for which there is still a legitimate recognized medical use. You need a prescription, and there are limits on how many refills, etc.
I'm not the one who did it. Take it up with the DEA if it bothers you. My personal experinece is that they both belong together for abuse potential. You know cocaine is still legally made and prescribed, and that it is used for ENT surgery, right?
I agree with Red Chocolate. We've had many, many doctors on the shows I work on say that ADD and Depression should be treated first with proper diet and excercise before drugs. My Psychiatrist Brother says the same thing. Not saying drugs shouldn't ever be used, but it should be used ONLY when changing your dietary habits & excercising doesn't work.
ADHD = Absent Dad at Home Disorder Seriously, my wife is a Kindergarten teacher and you wouldn't believe how many of those kids (99% boys) are drugged up simply for being boys...
