Well, since it was pointed out that he isn't as good as LeBron James, I think we have no alternative to benching him.
Part 1: There was a lot of talk on the message board about Ariza and Brooks making the all-star game at the beginning of the season while at the same time people were making McGrady hate threads every five minutes. Ever wonder why that crap has stopped? Look at Landry, you can see people saying less and less of the same old crap like "yeah, but he gets his numbers against second team", "he's not a good rebounder", "but Hayes' defense is so important", etc. Surprisingly during the same time that Landry has been getting more minutes and more time in the 4th quarter we have also seen less and less "OMG!!!1, Shane is horrible trade him now for Chris Bosh, Joel Pryzbilla and LeBron James". I admit, I may have had a slight hand in some of the crap but I like how the message board seems to have cooled off since. Part 2: There have not too many options for the Rockets as of right now. How many screens, pick n' rolls and catch and shoots has Adleman called? Not many, because we don't have the players to do it or it just ain't called for some reason. The team's shot selection has improved drastically since the Phoenix game and so has Ariza's. There are ways to take the pressure of Ariza with screens, pick n' rolls, etc.
seriouly speaking, trevor needs to improve both his shooting and awful ball handling.his athletism is quite excellent for the height , arm length as well as quick response.but his sense of body controling or balance controling is quite bad, which would require more practice to correct . among the current rotation ,trevor is the best player selected to be a 2nd or 3rd scorer next season along with yao ,maybe another all-star level player.so it is a good chance to develop him fully since we don't have a clear objective this season.
Ariza will have a different role next season. The more he can improve this season the better it will be for the Rockets future. The guy is 24 he's young enough to have been a draft pick in this year's draft.
Well, he's about the same age as Landry isn't he? So age-wise he probably still has some potential and can round out his game. Who thought we were going to be really replacing a $23 million dollar player with a guy signed with the MLE? He's more of a replacement for Ron than a first or second offensive option. The only reason Ron saw as man touches as he did was due to injuries. The Rockets didn't sign Ariza to be their 1st or 2nd option, that's just where we are AGAIN due to injuries.
Even on this injured team he shouldnt be the first or second option lol. Scola, Landry, Brooks then Ariza IMO.
You're absolutely right about that. We've got a couple of guys who can score more efficiently than Ariza. There is probably more to what the Rockets are doing to plan for the future than we know. The guys out there on thefloor are showing Adelman and Morey what we've got for next season and what missing pieces remain.
Without players like Yao and Tracy, we don't have any for sure first or second options. The ball should be in whoevers hands are hot. It should be in a combo of the 4 players you listed above to see who is on. Some games, Ariza will be our go to guy, in other he will be our 3rd or 4th option. In addition, RA sees alot of potential in Ariza. Let him do his thing this season and see how much he will progress. RA wont let him take this many shots once Yao is back, so until then, let the players play!
Before this season began, was this forum not waffling whether to tank for the Wall lotto or scrap it together for a little playoff run, both options featuring developing our young guys? What you are watching, my friend, is a young player developing. More fun to say than actually grit your teeth through.
Personally I'd rather see and support Trevor and all his faults. Watch him grow as a player and grow in Adelman's system, than have to see and put up with Tracy's drama, me,me,me....
Actually, that's not interesting at all. Comparing the efficiency of a #1 draft pick, future hall of famer, MVP, and max salary player against a #43 pick, non-All-Star, MLE salaried role player is not interesting at all.
He's still young and learning and never probably been to this kind of situation. He probably never felt the pressure that he's getting right now in his entire career... Give him some time... But on the other hand, he needs to work on his defense a lot more. I know that he's getting a lot of steals, but he gambles too much that he always gets beat by the opposing player... In regards to Portland game, Coach Adelman could have done a better job also by giving Battier the defensive assignment against Brandon Roy in the last few possesions. It was so obvious that Ariza couldn't stop him from driving into the lane, why not give your best wing defender a chance? For sure Ariza can hold his ground against Andre Miller... I know they came out short again, but it was a good game overall...
The "I told you so" is because all summer there was a substantial group of people overrating the guy so at one point I came out and said I look forward to the "Ariza sucks" threads that would pop up 10 games into the season once people realized how limited he is as an offensive player. I'm not saying everyone on the BBS thought he was going to be an All Star but there were at least a dozen regular posters who were claiming that.
i understand how u feel but as others have said, this is a learning experience for him. Kobe didnt become dominant overnight. not that hes goin to be kobe but kobe used to go 1 on 5 all the time and always wanted the ball in crunch time when he was in his first few years. he eventually learned how to handle himself in those situations. TA on a much lower level needs to learn wat shots to take and when he is hurting or helping the team. experience is the best teacher.
he probably took a page from kobe when he was learning under him last year with those leaning off balance 3s... except ariza is no kobe when it comes to shotmaking
Kobe needs to teach this guy more about how to play during cruch time, there has been more than 3 times that he lost the ball during our final offense. trevor needs to know where his advantage is ,and where he still needs to work on it.his poor ball handling and sucking shooting decison really kill us.
