Ariza is shooting in the high 30% from the field. Tmac is a career mid 40% shooter. Big difference. And like others have said, tmac can dribble the ball above a semi-r****ded level
I have been saying this since we got here that Ariza's athleticism is greatly exaggerated. He is not super athletic like so many make him out to be. In fact he is not particularly athletic. Quite average really.
In a radio interview a while back, Morey said he and Adelman were responsible for Ariza taking a high number of 3-point shots, adding that even when he misses it's a good shot because it gives the Rockets an advantage in getting the offensive rebound, or something like that. In another interview, Morey was asked if he was surprised Ariza was leading the team in scoring and he said yes, he actually thought Brooks or Scola would be leading that category at this point. But he saw this as a positive, a sign that Ariza was acclimating himself to the team faster than Morey had predicted. So the feeling I get is that Morey and Adelman have a fairly well thought-out plan for how they want to utilize Ariza. It's not just giving him the green light and then praying for the best.
The usage of enormous text must stop. I don't think Adelman has a mancrush on Ariza, I just think he realizes DM and the organization have made an investment in Ariza (a loooooooong-term one), and I think he sees something in him that convinces him that Ariza is the right man for that job (or the second coming of Shane Battier).
u forget tracy shot about the same as Ariza is now when he was hurt. this is a healthy ariza out there. I am not against Ariza at all, but dont say he is an upgrade over Mcgrady.
Maybe Ariza is just figuring out what he can and can't do. Thing is if he still hasn't figured out he can't dribble then you have to wonder......
Kobe's early years were horrible in terms of shot selection. He just had no conscience. It is still bad comparing him to other superstars, but he makes a good percentage of them. Ariza's success depends on the kind of person and learner he is. If he can analyze why he is failing to be efficient and improve throughout the season and summers, he will be quite a player. Coaches can pigeon hole a player just as easily as building them up...
Trevor does do this thing called "deee Fence" though, so that is nice. Talk about semi-r****ded, ever seen Tracy on D... More like semi-alive... Atleast r****ded folk give effort.
I'm sure most people did not expect this. I don't understand the I told you so BS either. Many of us knew that capabilities this kid had and we knew being a 1st or 2nd option wasn't going to work out.
In another thread spoke of why does Ariza get the green light, and not someone like Kyle Lowry to get more shot attempts and polish up his game? Ariza gets to expand freely, Lowry maybe can but still has to do it through his role. I said its probably cuz Ariza for sure is signed to be here multiple years. Everyone else's status beyond this year is up in the air. Plus Budinger appears to have a similar green light at times, so maybe its not as much Ariza favoritism as it appears.
For the Mid-level? No one but an idiot would have believed that. At best, he can be an athletic Shane Battier, which is nice!!!
Yu should explain this concept of "defense" to Ariza because judging from his play, he has not heard of it.
LOL you guys are so ridiculous its not even funny. I have never seen a forum where the fans outright TURN on every player when they are playing bad. Is Ariza playing bad on offense? Yes he is? So what? Contrary to popular belief he actually is playing good defense (even though this board seems to overlook every good thing he does and focus on the negatives). People blamed him for the loss last night? Seriously? how about Chuck Hayes trying to take a charge instead of attempting to block Roy's last second scoop shot? The kid is trying and he is still adjusting, and so far i think he has done OK. Hell people are now even saying Ariza has average athleticism. Big LOL.
Ariza does have average NBA athleticism, but he has nice timing for steals so he appears quicker than he is. In addition, Shane should have been defending Roy. When Roy bobbled the ball Shane would have cut him off instead of reaching and still leaving a lane. Also Ariza shoots far too many bad shots which contrary to popular belief here is not going to make him a better player. Oh, and i do remember the comparisons to a young McGrady here, who ever said they read that is not lying.
I'm pretty sure RA realizes how inefficient Ariza is playing but he knows that he has a lot of potential. This is why he is a players coach and players all have high respect for him. He gives the player a chance to develop his game. Ariza will never be a TMac or even close, but next year you will not complain about RA giving him all this freedom. I think Ariza's progression will be very clear by the end of this season or early next season.
I honestly dont see the mountain of potential that other see. I dont ever see him being a focal point of an offense or even a 2nd option but with improvment in the handles and shot selection he could be an even better role player.
