I've been thinking about this too. He had his faults but Jeff Van Gundy was a coach who knew how to handle star players, how to stand by them but also how to challenge them to play at a high level. . Whatever Adelman decides to do, he needs to get McGrady on his side. Whether it's getting McGrady to play hurt or benching him, Adelman can't make it seem like he's "punishing" McGrady with his decision. Talking him into playing hurt when he doesn't want to (which is my guess as to what's happening) is not the best thing to do. Yes, McGrady's a prima donna, but barring a trade, he's our best bet at a championship run. If you show him loyalty, he will play at an extremely high level when he can. His years with Van Gundy has shown that.
Yeah, u guys are so right. I bet Adelman didnt send T-Mac a Chirstmas card and that's what caused this drama. Fire Adelman!!!!
Exactly. T-Mac is at some fault for our current predicament but RA is just not the coach for this team. He doesn't know how to motivate our superstars and he doesn't have the people he needs to run his offense. Irregardless of whether t-mac is quitting the fact remains I don't think this team can run RAs offense. Not with Yao in the middle clogging it up.
Actually, I think Adelman has done a great job. He's in a tough situation now, but he's handled most problems up to now very well. I'm just thinking about how McGrady can be motivated to give his best effort, which JVG got him to do IMO.
Adelman is not a tough guy. I feel like he has NO CONTROL, the players just do what they wanna do. For example, JVG would have said : 'Tracy, you gotta do that and that, or you are not gonna play' Adelman wouldn say anything. I would be on T-Mac : 'Coach, tonight I am gonna do this because I don't care'. Adelman : 'Well, ok' I feel like Rick is really afraid of those players, especially T-Mac. He does not have the control. He can only ask this team to play like he wants them to play.
