I think Adelman could make this team play well, but he makes one big mistake regularly. Stints! Starters play 10-14 minutes in the beginning of the game and after that they are little bit tired the rest of the game. And in the 4th quarter, we collapse or lose by few points.

If the starters would play 6-9 minutes in the beginning, we would win much more games.

I know it sounds crazy, but I think it is reasonable. I did see a mistake in my post, let me fix it here. JVG destroyed Yao may also mean that he misleaded Yao to a completely wrong direction. For example, assume you have a baby, who has a great gift in Chemistry. If you hire a physicist as his tutor, the baby will be completely destroyed. It is your fault to hire a wrong tutor, it is not all the tutor's fault. Go back to the topic, if I'm right, it wasn't all JVG's fault, it was Rox's fault to hire JVG, in this case. To me, the thing is, JVG wasn't a good fit for Yao. I hope that JVG's lovers can feel better now.

You are still incorrect, sir ;)

It has nothing to do with JVG love or hate. The bottom line is that Yao went from a decent player to one of the best in the NBA under JVG. I disagree completely with your reasoning. Yao is not struggling under the new offense.

JVG destroyed YAO? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.......that has to be the most ignorant
argument ever made on this whole JVG vs RA situation. Not even the best of the best JVG haters would say JVG destroyed Yao. JVG made it a notion to keep Yao on the low block and keep feeding him the ball. What happened? He only turned into one of the most dominant big men in the game today and a Top 3 back-to-the-basket player, which is almost a lost art these days.

It wasn't all JVG but him making Yao live in the paint is why he is much tougher these days. What about Rick the Ruler "destroying" Yao by trying to make him into a Divac/Miller type player when Yao is clearly way ahead of those two on the offensive side? It was only till recently that Yao stopped shooting those long jumpers and notice how Yao has put up better numbers and we won more games.

Hey! You aren't allowed to post facts here. The only reason Yao even has any cold spots is b/c JVG taught him incorrectly. :p

And blackbird...I don't know about you, but common sense tells me that if you have a 7'6, 300 lb. CENTER who isn't quick, your best bet is to turn him into a low post BEAST with a decent mid-range game who can pass out of the double team or take it to the hoop, which is exactly what has happened.

I must admit that I'm quite amused at these types of threads. Their audacity and pointlessness is beyond belief. So in your opinion, JVG failed because the players failed to step it up in crunch time, pull their heads out of their collective asses (starting with Mr. "It's On Me") and actually go out there and play some serious basketball. When they didn't it was the head coache's fault. All he did was guide an admittedly less talented team - one that lost one of its superstar players for 32 games to injury - to 52 wins last season. Yeah, that's a textbook definition of failure. Oh, and while we playing the blame game, let's also blame him for the years of personnel mistakes made by the front office which is easy to do since so many folks here don't appear to have the foggiest idea of what a General Manager is or what he does or is supposed to do.

And that's been the story around here for going on 8 years now: Blame the head coach and let the organization and players off the hook. That's what Uncle Les wants you all to do so you'll keep coming back year after year to buy his line of BS (does "It's Time!" ring a bell?). You folks wanted JVG gone and he's gone. You got your wish. He and his 52 wins last year are history. I thought you'd all be happy but wait! You haven't even given Rick Adelman the luxury of one season before you start in after him. I have a question for you and yours: Just how many coaching changes will it take before you folks start putting the blame where it belongs: on those guys going out there wearing Rockets uniforms and on an owner who let his franchise drift off into mediocrity after winning 2 NBA championships?

EDIT: not worth the time it took to post that

Proving you wrong? People have been doing that everytime you post. Yao was not meant to be a player that shoots 3's and plays a finesse game. Would you prefer that he become the second coming of Okur?

You really don't understand basketball, which is fine, but don't post and make ridiculous statements with terrible analogies and think that you are not going to be called out on it.

    Now, prove me wrong

Also, let's just look at stats to see how Yao was ruined...

Pre JVG: 29 Mins, 13.5 points and 8.2 rebounds
Last season: 33.8 mins, 25 points and 9.4 rebounds

Now, you keep saying that JVG ruined Yao b/c he was taught under a different system.

This season: 37 mins, 22.1 points and 10.5 rebounds

Yao's scoring is down now that we have other players that are capable of making shots. The addition of players like Aaron Brooks, who can drive it to the hole, an in shape Bonzi Wells, who can create his own shot, Luis Scola, who can hit open shots and create under the basket...take some of the scoring burden off of Yao so that he doesn't have to shoot as much.

His field goal percentage is down a bit, but is still a respectable 50%, and some of that has to do with his playing in the high post more often.

Doesn't look at all like Yao has been ruined. In fact, he seems to be adjusting well and we are starting to play him in the low post more often.

Rick the Ruler? How soon people forget the traits of JVG. He was a control freak! Rick lets players make decisions on the court. I don't believe JVG ruined Yao, I believe the he set Yao up for failure. JVG's defense was great, but at the expense of the offense. The offense was predicable and as other players have said they knew what was coming before the Rockets did.

Do we not remember that Yao wasn't allowed to work with Dawson or Hakeem under JVG's watch. JVG brought in all defense and no offense type players(example Chuck Hayes). IMO Rick is still trying to shake out the JVG out of this team. I might not agree with all of Adelman line ups, but this style of basketball is a lot more pleasing to the eye. And yes, if JVG was still coaching this team we would have a better record, there no doubt about that, but does it matter if we still get knocked out of the first round? Once Adelman gets this team playing the way he wants them too, the defense won't know where the offense is coming from.

And if JVG was still coaching this team do you think any of our rookies would get any amount of significant playing time? (Scola, Brooks, Landry or should I say Bonzi?) JVG wanted to control every aspect of the game, now thats a control freak.

I think "Jeff the Ruler" is more appropriate. He didn't bring out the best in players or even work to their strengths. He more like tried to pound square pegs in round holes.

I agree with the Rick the Ruler comments...that is def a better nickname for JVG than for RA

EDIT: and I think a bunch of you need to read up on the duties of a GM

However, in regards to your playing rookies comments, please look a page or two back

Rick the Ruler is a much cooler sounding nickname than RA. RA is just horrible and lazy. Rick the Ruler is not a knock or diss on Rick Adelman. Rick Ruler > RA. Slick Rick the Ruler baby!!!

I've already answered a similar question yesterday. If you just roll back one page, you can see it (post #245). Also, you can find the same answer from my post today as well (post #264). I feel so tired to answer the same question over and over again. Now, I just paste it here:

Why didn't Yao play very well this year? New coach, new system. He had never had a single chance to play in a good offensive system during the last 4 years. He has lost many ability since then.

JVG trained Yao solely playing in the low post as a robot during the last 4 years. There is nothing can be changed overnight. And, as I said, maybe it is too late to change anything.

The damage had been made (Yao had been destroyed), maybe, it is too late to fix it.

    PS: Blake,

I read all your posts, know your points, and know what you are talking about. My question is, do you really know what I'm talking about, and do you really know what you are talking about? Your questions/statements had already been answered by my posts many times in this thread. Do you want me to repeat it again and again?

    PS:

I want to say it again. If I am wrong or someone can prove me wrong, I will be more than happy to come back here to admit it.

Stupid analogy but I will play along. What if the baby with the chemistry gift is tutored by a physicist and then becomes the best physicist in the world? Is that not a good thing. Yao became the best low post player in the world, with the possible exception of Duncan.

What do you think any other coach would have turned Yao into, a three point shooter, a running dunking athlete, a point guard? He is 7'6, 300 pounds and limited athletically. JVG said it best, within 8 feet Yao is the best player in the world, outside of that he is average. Most people who watch basketball would probably agree. Why not keep him close to the rim?

No, because you are basically just making stuff up with no logical or rational underpinnings and no supporting evidence.

Please stop sucking or stop posting.

Sorry that was rude, but it's true.

Jeez, what are you talking about? Just use your common sense. So, basically, you just want to argue, right?

It had already answered in my post. An above averaged offensive minded NBA coach will be good enough to develop Yao. I'm not a NBA coach, therefore, I don't know the exactly answers.
