Well then lets hope they finally make it a habit. Some many times i got annoyed last year because they never reposted Yao.
They don't keep force feeding bc he panics with double teams. Tonight they kept feeding him even after reposting. Hopefully he continues to improve along with Brooks who struggles the most with post passing. Also Yao got the ball plenty of times from reposting, not from Brooks though.
This. I was literally screaming at the TV on one sequence last night on a fast break: "PASS THE BALL, SCOLA! PASS THE BALL!" Scola got the ball and attacked the basket with relentless passion despite having two defenders on him. He had a completely wide open shooter on the wing to his right. He got the foul, but it still felt like a huge missed opportunity.
There was one play last night where he did pass the ball out twice. My eyebrows went HIGH and thought, well damn, he can pass out to the wing. But you guys are right, he doesn't do it near as often as he should.
Rondo can see over his defender 90% of the time, and he is only 2 cm taller than Brooks, its the mentality , not the height.
I don't see why people are bagging on Scola. Even the Startribune thought that Scola had a great game. [rquoter]MVP Luis Scola, Houston No Yao? No McGrady? No problem, not with Scola leading an overactive, undersized front line with a 20-point, 16-rebound performance.[/rquoter]
Scola post-up is the new black hole.. and it equals TO... seriously.. learn to look up in the post scola.. he definitely has a one-track mind when he starts dribbling.
You can't be watching the games. The guy was accustomed to being the first option for years in Europe and in international play for the national team of Argentina, but he's learning and, in my opinion, improving steadily this year. He had 3 assists last night and would have had more had shots been made, or if the team hadn't been doing so well at making the extra pass. This is not meant as a criticism of Landry, but Scola moves the ball far more than Carl does. Check the numbers. One of the best things about this team? Doing something Rockets teams have fumbled seemingly forever... beating the teams they are supposed to beat. I love it!
Some great quotes from Scola (and Coach A) that I'll put here, since it's one of the few threads about him. Enjoy A tired Luis Scola is a dangerous Luis Scola. When fatigue hits, the Rockets' big man hits back. "Luis gives us so much energy," Houston coach Rick Adelman admired Wednesday after Scola led the Rockets to a 97-84 victory over the Timberwolves. "He just keeps working." "It could be seven straight games, and he's not going to change who he is," Adelman said. "He just keeps playing. He must have gotten four or five baskets (Wednesday) just because of the offensive boards -- he just stays on it." ............. "It was such a dangerous game," said Rockets forward Shane Battier. "They want to win. You can't look at the records and assume you're going to win." Not until SuperScola showed up, anyway. Adelman inserted his never-too-tired secret weapon into the game to open the fourth quarter, and "we really picked it up from there," Adelman said. "Luis came back in, and we seemed to take control at that point." ............. And my favorite: "These are the type of games that are going to put us in the playoffs" Scola said. "It's the most important game of the week, so I was talking to myself about it, trying to fire myself up a little bit. "If we are able to (beat) all these bottom-of-standings teams on a regular basis, we're going to have good record. And if once in a while, we beat the good teams, especially at home, we're going to be in the playoffs." http://www.nba.com/games/20091118/HOUMIN/gameinfo.html (if this is posted somewhere, I missed it)
I know. How often have many of us thought the same thing, but waited in vain for a player to say it? Not just about McGrady (and hell yes, I wish he had that attitude!), but about the importance of the games? You usually hear this kind of stuff from the coaches, who hope someone is listening. You rarely hear it from a player, certainly not in an intelligent, comprehensible way.
A blackhole that hits over 50% of his shots. And that's even if you consider his midrange JS is better than him postng up (wich is not) Scola is hardly a black hole. I am quite sure this team has no consistent blackhole, maybe some Ariza or Brooks nights, but not Scola, he takes the shots that are given to him, that's why he has that amazing average.
