Do you think management will do something, anything? They already agreed to let him play only one game in a back to back. As much as i'd like management to do something, it seems more like they are catering to mcgrady's needs and wants right now. And of course, that hasn't been of much success...
unless teams can trade coaches like they can trade players, i don't really see any solution to this seemingly incompatible marriage. all we can do is "wait" for T-Mac to get healthy/confident, hopefully this season, along with Artest and Battier. and hopefully Yao can get a little bit less slower or something. then, and only then will we see any real progress. what i would give to see Phil Jackson coach this team. he could help motivate the "slackers" and underachievers, utilize Yao to his maximum potential, and definitely find a role for Steve Francis... oops to late for that anyway. oh yeah, and bring defense back and for the first time bring some freaking consistency. the only problem is that the triangle offense (assuming the players buy into it, but usually his teams do) takes a good part of a whole season to learn. then again the Princeton offense never took off for the Rockets, and we were left watching the same uncreative offense as Gundyball.
Jackson's demeanor on the sideline isn't that far off from Adelman's. Also the triangle offense and corner offense look mostly the same.
in the past 25 years only 8 coaches have won championships. 1 of those being Doc Rivers I respect Doc Rivers' style greatly. But I think he's at the level of Jeff or Stan Van Gundy, Rick Carlisle, Flip Saunders, Rick Adelman, coaches in that level who havent won championships either. Rick Adelman can't tell the front office to get players. Well he "can" but it'd be like when Gary Kubiak took the Texans job knowing David Carr is part of the package. He'd really have to be bold to say get player A out and bring player B in. There seems to be a line of who's coach and who's GM now, with the GM having his own strategies in mind for payroll and the type of player to bring in.
So TMac's tally of zero playoff series wins is better? Rick's coaching has gotten his teams to 2 NBA finals and 4 Western Conference finals. His firing from Sacramento was because of the Maloof's beef with him, not because of his performance. Ask any Kings fan or player from that season and they would have loved for him to stay. As this is simply a "what if" situation, I'd vote for Rick to stay. I hope McGrady gets his senses together though.
I would say TMaac, i prefer Adelman, but to ask a coach to play a team diminished in salary by 22 millions is too much. See the Knicks. In T-Mac case we wont be able to get rid of him, and if we can it will be for a player like Marbury or something that can“t play, on the other side we can always change Adelman for another coach. Not sure which coach, but sure not JVG, his bball is only effective when TMac is playing well and right now TMac is playing like me.
Well it is easier to get rid of a coach then a player, but if Adelman was fired who would they replace him with? I would not go for a rookie coach at this point. Avery Johnson maybe? He did show some success in Dallas. Then again maybe the coaching is not the problem, heck we had three different coaches in the Yao Ming era and nothing has worked so far. I would not wanna be in the Rockets management position right now
It has to be McGrady. While Rick is still likeable, McGrady is so un-likeable its pityful. Nobody in Houston would pick to get rid of Adelman before McGrady. And if we do somehow let Adelman go and keep McGrady, the NBA will have yet another hard pill to swallow for letting primadonnas talk and coaches walk. -
after the last chronicle article, i think its more and more evident that tracy's time should be over here and we should move on with rick adelman as the coach. as long as players buy into the system, which they apparently have, they can pick up a superstar in 2010 and allow themselves to be real contenders then and not pretenders now.
if you give the stars the option to rule the team then you will endup replacing a coach every season with no winning. Even if that was to happen I think TMAC should be the last player to get any ears knowing his history of quitts.
