Rick Adelman is a great coach and a great bball mind, but IMO morey has more to do with team philosophy than anyone else in the organization. He chooses the players and has a hand in developing them too. Its a collaboration between Rick and Daryl, but Daryl is picking the players, Adelman is just teaching them.
McG was an integrated part of the 22W team. He is not now, at least not yet, part of this squad's 'identity'. But, fact is you have a good point.
Not really that team played a half court game, and had Yao and then Deke in the middle, this team is completely different. Cuts, picks, rolls, running....way different style. DD
If it is one or the other Adelman all the way but I don't think this is some sort of black and white choice. Adelman's not an idiot and T-Mac still wants to do what's best for his career. That means that if and when Tracy is ready to return they are going to work out a way for Tracy to be productive in Adelman's system. As much as I've criticized T-Mac before I doubt he will refuse to play Adelman ball and Adelman's not so stubborn as to not seek to adjust his offense to employ Tracy's talents.
That stuff doesnt happen in the half court? Look I know what youre getting at. Tracy isn't a guy that gets out in transition very often and he's most effective with the ball in his hands, but i think we could use someone like that. We already have a bunch of guys who do alot of things away from the ball and Brooks is an inconsistant decision maker. It'd be nice to add a veteran in the back court with brooks to take some of the pressure off. JMO.
I don't feel like the 2 are as mutually exclusive as others think. I don't feel that Tracy is a selfish basketball player. I feel like the organization owes it to the team and the fans to let us see what he can do. With a healthy Tracy, I think we would have had a much better chance at closing out a couple of those close games we lost. Another creator in the backcourt would be a huge boost.
JUST LET TRACY MCGRADY PLAY... Hell give the guy 10 mins a game for the first few games... hes better with a bad knee than most of the guys on the team. Whats the big deal of letting tracy play ? If he is ready , then hes ready. You dont pay a guy 23mil and not expect him to be the "leader" of the team. If he plays, whats the worst he can do?
Yeah, having someone unafraid of posting controversial subjects, and disussing them, the horror ! Your first post? Awesome, welcome aboard the best fansite on the planet. Clutchfans rock ! DD
Any why is everyone getting on DD for his posting ? If the guy makes a legit post, in this case it is, then comment and have fun. Geez......
This poll is contrived to make it look like the BBS is against T-mac. There's no inbetween. Really, most of us would say we want a compromise where T-mac fits into Adelman's offense.
When Yao gets back, we're going to have to go back to that hybrid style of Rick's offense. So it won't hurt to be able to play in the half court game. The playoffs are where your halfcourt game will advance or eliminate the team. Not just the playoffs but in close games during the regular season where clock managements becomes huge, going into our half court offense is going to be a huge help.
he can do lot of bad things to the team, destroy team chemistry rockets start losing, he starts asking for a trade and in return rockets get lesser quality players . Rockets organization lose on insurance money they already paid him last year for nothing and what he did just cried all the time and left the team in middle of the season rather than waiting for few months for his surgery and could have helped the team during playoffs. I personally just want to see Rockets get better not TMac palying for his own benefit. You think he will be happy to play 10 mins.. Current Tmac can just shoot (hoipefully) and bring the ball up the court he cant defend, cant run, cant dunk, cant lead a team.
I see where your coming from. But someone with his status as a player, he has natural ability. He still can give you options on the court right now. Clearly the guy has been busting he butt this off season and trying to improve. If he was "messing up chemisty", then how was he able to be a big part of the 22 wins club? I think people forget to understand that, yeah Tmac has let the team down at some point, but think about this... He took on the leadership role in the series against UTAH and called his shot putting it on him (his choice) and played his ass off. He played Utah the next playoff year with a bad knee and shoulder and still played his butt off People complained that he needed to play more games and is always hurt, so what did he do.... he played last season with a jacked up knee... I give the guy alot of credit but i also give him alot of crap too because we all are frustrated. He had the potential to be one of the best all time but has failed to achieve that. He has god gifted talent, but cant get a break. But hes still a rocket and until hes out of the uniform, we all need to back the guy up.
I don't think as black and white as you make it. There is room for both. Adelman has had great individual talent shine within his team oriented system before (C-Webb and Clyde). The real issue is do you trust Tracy to buy into the system. What T-Mac needs to realize is that the best way to repair his image/secure his next contract is to be a part of a winning situation, not a whining situation. Its up to him what he wants to do. the Rockets have made it clear that this is their team, not his, without embarrassing him or making him look bad in the public. Kudos to them.
I've only seen the Rockets play a couple of games this season, but if you don't think this team is entertaining, perhaps you should start watching another sport.
I reject this notion that the conflict between Adelman and McGrady is "team-oriented" versus "selfish individualism". http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/britt_robson/10/15/adelman.rockets/ [rquoter] "Tracy is a wild card," Adelman admitted. "Last year, we didn't know whether he could practice or play from one game to the next, and we could do it that way because we had Yao and Ron. But this year, we can't. Right now, they say he could be back in December or it could be later. I just want to see how he plays at both ends. "If he can come back and play like he did before, we are a different team, a team others have to worry about. He is a guy we can go to down the stretch, and our other guys can play around him. When he was healthy, he was our playmaker; he got into the middle of the floor and made the game easier for others. But if he can't do that this year, he's not going to help us because of what we are doing with Aaron and Trevor. So, yeah, I'm trying to evaluate how much he can help us, and that's tough." [/rquoter] Adelman wants McGrady to play hard, commit to defense, run the floor. He wants to know what he's getting from McGrady day-to-day.
