Obviously RA is not Jackson, neither is JVG. But it is not RA's fault that Yao or T-Mac or Artest can't stay healthly. I would like to see us in the playoffs one year when we are 100% healthly with RA as a coach.
JVG is a far better coach for players like T-mac and Yao who don't have a strong presence themselves. That's why our offense hasn't improved much despite the influx of talent with Adelman because JVG was far better at utilizing t-mac.
JVG is a little bit better than Rick in defense but it's not very convincible to claim JVG as a far better coach than Rick, I mean Rick is evidently much better than JVG at the other end of the floor. Through all his 4 years with rockets, JVG hasn't gained anything to brag about even though the tried his best and lost alot of his hair. at least Rick has got the 22 winning streak that deserves boasting, it's only an honor for the regular season though.
Again as the other guy said, your missing the point. Your being too dense about the topic. You can't put two coaches together and expect it to work out bc they have different philosophies. JVG and RA are almost bipolar opposites, it would never work.
Wouldn't matter one Iota. The total emphasis on one end of the basketball court would have brought the same Van Gundy playoff results. Not to mention, from Day 1 Van Gundy would have had his usual hook out for Wafer the FIRST instant he missed a defensive assignment. Hell, knowing VG, he'd have kept Wafer on the bench if he (VG) dreamt the night before a game that Von Wafer missed a D assignment. Beyond that, he'd have revolted at the mention of trading away Alston.
I'm reserving judgement. At the end of the day, what counts are results, and we'll know in the playoffs if RA's intangibles outweight all the weird substitutions and bone-headed plays he draws out of timeouts. If we don't make it out of the first round AND at least put up a good fight in the 2nd, I'm all for firing RA. With the talent we have on this roster, getting out of the 1st round is a given. If we don't even make it there or get owned in the 2nd, then all that means is that RA isn't adding enough value to the team to merit staying on as coach.
Is it really fair to judge? JVG was with this team longer than Rick. I guess I'll wait until after the championship run to make my judgment.
I voted for Adelman, because I am a ROCKET FAN, which means I love ALL of the Rockets. But I do have a problem with RA leaving struggling players in a little to long. naismith
Vspan/nachbar are not their team's MVP in Euro league either. Scola got JVG's Rocky of year vote. Vspan is behind head in JVG's roster. it's saying a lot.
There's a guy who just put up 32 points on the Rockets the other night named Azubuike. If memory serves he played some preseason games for the Rockets a couple of years ago but failed to make the roster. Wafer had a 1 percent chance to make the team, or so they say. He ended up making a roster that already had McGrady, Artest, Battier, Barry, and Luther Head on it; 5 other guys that played basically the same position as he did. On the other hand Azubuike couldn't make a team that everyone likes to say was so starved for talent. Who decides who makes a team? The coach. I'm willing to bet there is NO WAY that Von Wafer makes this team under Van Gundy. He's just one example of guys that wouldn't be here under the former regime. So for all you who say that Adelman has so much more talent, keep that in mind.
So if with T-Mac out, who would JVG has played if Wafer is not an option according to you? Head? 40 minutes for Artest/Battier every night? If McGrady was healthy this year, we don't even know who Wafer is.
JVG didn't have Morey to get him all this talent, and I dont buy that he would tell Morey who to acquire. Guys like Luther Head or Chuck Hayes were getting significant minutes for JVG because everyone else on the team was so sad. They are both good coaches, I just wish Yao got more shots under Adelman.
