This year Rockets LOST about 15 games to the bottom teams. This is way under achievement. JVG will not allow it happened.
Actually I believe it was 7 of em. And that was mainly during the part of the season where he had 2 or 3 players in and out of the lineup. The Rockets had WAAAY fewer losses against bad teams last year.
As I already said...we don't agree on basketball philosophy or knowledge to say the least. It's not even worth arguing your points, because you obviously didn't read the part I said about it would never happen. How much does RA pay you to post on here by the way? Or are you his son?
I sense frustration in your post and I can see where it is coming from. You are having problem comprehending the difference between "Why it would never happen" (which I agree with, btw) and "Why it would never work out in context of Rockets drastically improving on defense." which you claimed would happen. I am not surprised that you gave the credit entirely to Tom T. without addressing the fact that KG joined the Celtics *gasp* at the same time....even when I brought it up as a reminder. I am also not surprised that you failed to indicate as to HOW the defense would improve IF the two were working together. Maybe that would be a good start?
Completly different coaches. COMPLETLY. You can't compare them at all. But for Yao&T-Mac Van Gundy is a lot better. Now I know that.
Fo kissing tmac's but Van Gundy is better For winning in the playoffs without maclady 100% Adelman As for who is the better coach it is hard to say but I am thinking Adelman 100%
Keep in mind his alternatice were the same talent level but unknown to him. At least these scrubs he had worked with before.
Just a quick glance at the last season JVG coached shows some losses to the pre-KG Celtics, the Hawks, the T-Wolves (who even still with KG weren't going anywhere), and Indiana. So its not like JVG kept the Rockets from occasionally losing to sub .500 teams.
At that point then how can we say that JVG would be so much better with Adelman's lineup when JVG wouldn't have known how good Scola, Brooks and Landry might be and probably wouldn't have played them or talked management into getting them? JVG wanted the Clarence Weatherspoons, Mark Jacksons and Juwon Howards of the world. There is no guarentee that JVG even gets the Luis Scola's Aaron Brooks or Von Wafers.
Adelman vs JVG is like our PF situation. You'd love to have the athleticism of Landry, the craftiness of Scola, and the defense of Hayes combined into 1 player. You'd also like to have JVG/Adelman be 1 coach. Thank about it...
I agree with you that Jeff is a better coach for a center. But I dont like his game. And each time he calls TO, the play he set up appears to be TO(turn over). Then he take paper out of his pocket to write it down. But nothing changes next time.
I think you're being unfair. A coach is prone to talking up the players he has on his roster. How are you going to coach and motivate players if you say things like "oh man look what I get saddled with" or "great another scrub". If you listen to Van Gundy's telecasts you listen to a man with a great understanding of the game and a good eye for talent. Morey would've changed the direction of the Van Gundy ship. Didn't you hear? He was just making it up.
I'm going to hold judgment until another day on this one. To me, both have done the same to this point - first round exits. Given that DM is a great GM, many are overlooking the fact that when JVG was coach he didn't have DM to supply players but rather CD. Our young guys under Rick are getting playing time and asked to step up because there's always an injury here or there with this team and has helped their development. Under JVG, let's be honest, we had no real bench. Who do you want to step up - guys like Luther, Clarence, and Ryan, which eventually had to. If JVG had this team, he wouldn't have dragged out the Mac thing, we wouldn't have lost to under .500 teams multiple times, or allow late collapses. JVG did more with less during his time, if Rick can't get to the WCF, I'm still holding judgment. Yes, that's right, I didn't say out the first round because Rick has better players and with better players comes higher expectations. Go Rockets!!!
I like Adelman but I voted for JVG because the Rox are never going to trade Yao, we all know that by now, and Yao doesn't fit in with Adelman'sstyle of play. JVG slow down defensive style was perfect for Yao. I know it was ugly basketball, but defense wins. However, when you lose game 7 at home - in a blowout no less - I guess he had to go!
I'm wondering though how much input JVG had on picking up players. I don't think it was an accident that a lot of former Knicks who played for JVG ended up on the team. I don't think the players JVG had were necessarily JVG just being saddled with bad aging players but JVG looking to pick up players that he had coached and trusted. As for all the great young talent the Rockets have we know that it was a frequent gripe against JVG that he didn't play young players much and was only forced to play Luther Head due to the injury situation. Brooks and Landry show a lot of promise but there is no guarentee that they would've gotten the playing time to develop under JVG.
