It wasn't that we wanted to sign Francis, it was Francis wanting to sign with us. We okay'd it since he was dirt cheap. Francis is still a talented player. Normally you draft talent first, then you work the chemistry out later. Unfortunately, the chemistry is defintely not there with Francis, so his "talents" are useless.
The sooner the better. I want a PG who can contribute to a playoff win, not shoot us out of a playoff game singlehandedly. Frankly, Head choked last year as well, but he is younger and can change.
Keep on reaching buddy. What Adelman saw were his strengths, namely his athleticism, penetrating ability and thought he could integrate those strengths smoothly into a motion offense. All Francis needed to do was tweak his game some and learn a little off the ball movement. I mean how hard could it be for an 8 year vet, whose 2 previous teams that he actually played for wanted him to play a little 2 guard, to learn how to move without the ball. Not surprisingly, Francis failed and continued on his losing ways with dribble mania, not to mention he came into camp out of shape, which is pretty egregious for a veteran coming to a team with championship aspirations. Way to lead by example Stevie. Comon now, did you actually think, RA saw Francis, and thought, "OOOOO I got Stevie Franchise, I'll let him play the way he did when he was an all-star and let him dominate the ball with the starting unit so he can create shots for my 2 super-stars". Francis just doesn't get it and judging by his comments he still doesn't.
i agree. seems more about figuring out the offence and being a part of the offense than being in shape. although being in better shape is always a plus.
You must be pretty blinded by Francis hate to think that. Look at the statistics from www.82games.com. There's no comparison. Also, if you watched any of their games objectively you'd also never think that. Francis >> Rafer in all aspects except running the offense. With the weapons we have, we don't really need a PG to contribute, so Rafer fits pretty well . . . for now. We'll see how he holds up when real competition starts.
Its a valid point. I doubt SF was saying I'm going to be indecisive and dribble out the clock and not pass. Makes more sense he was referring to his heart and intensity - both of which he has a lot of. And this board is super negative. Sometimes its frustrating how negative the board can get. I'm rooting for SF, and the rest of the Rockets.
don't tell me you're smarter than ra. ra didn't say anything about sf but out of shape. i don't know how you got an impression sf's style doesn't fit ra's system. he did say he thought sf would be his starter when heading to the training camp. can you tell me where and when ra said sf over dribbled ball? i believe i trust ra more than you.
I don't know whats hard to see? The Francis deal was a Les signing. Its pretty obvious that Morey and Adelman had no interest in getting Steve and it shows. Les knew that Steve still had fans here and when he realized Steve wanted to come back here, jumped at the opportunity and signed him for the cheap. He doesn't fit in Adelman's system, and unless Rafer or James gets hurt, he'll sit on the end of the bench for most of the season. That being said, I can see one of those guys getting hurt at some time early on in the season and Steve stepping up and playing a factor on this team.
Exactamundo. RA was well aware of Steve's game. Every time he's asked about Steve, RA keeps bringing up the fact that Steve came into camp in not as good shape as the other point guards. RA also keeps saying that everything is not set in stone and for Steve to keep working hard, implying the door is still open if Steve keeps working hard. As far as Head, since he's more of the 3 point marksmen for the team, I don't think Steve would be competing so much with Head....if Steve wants to get a lot of playing time, he'll have to get in shape, learn the offense and beat out Rafer. Rafer probably was the odd man out going into training camp, but he played his way back in. As far as Rafer's thigh bruise, it says that he's probable for the game? How probable is he? If not, then would Steve being getting some minutes as the backup point guard?
