I hope he'll loose so we don't need to fire him. We had enough curses in the past, lets make sure we avoid some new ones...
At this point I would give it to Paul Westphal. If they get anywhere near .500 with that team you have to give it to him. So far they are the most shocking team of the season. I expected the Rockets to be this good, and though most did not, a few did. So I expect Adelman will be in the top 5 and be overlooked again. My expectation is that he would have to win about 53 to get the award.
Alright this a good thought, but let the 1st qtr of the season go by before we start talking about coach of the year. Maybe Dikembe can come back and play the center role for a few months.
He's always in the mix but never gets one. It's a travesty he never got one with the Kings. It looks like the it's going to be the same here.
Definitely (for consideration), but too early though. Too early. I think like Larry Brown or Greg Popovich, and even Doc Rivers (1999-00 Magic), and many other college coaches like Knight, Coach K, Majerus, and many others. He is just that kind of coach who gets alot of his players, even though don't have the tools to be dominant players or all-stars. Adelman is just an outstanding offensive coach, and has put together to some great underrated defensive squads over the years. Which is why I so often look at Phil Jackson, and I can't simply annoit him the greatest BB/NBA coach ever? When he coach a team that is predicted to finish last or near the bottom 10 of the league without a go to superstar or top notch wing player (Pippen in 94, Grant Hill in his prime-like numbers and an all league defender)? Maybe. But I cringe, when I hear that Phil Jax is greatest ever or mastermind at adjustments, because I've rarely seen his teams beat more talented teams with him as head coach or him just out strategize the other coach by leaps and bounds? 93-94: Knicks 94-95: Magic, the Bulls were competitive again with unstoppable MJ, but they weren't going to beat the Magic that year, too much on the front line. 02-03: Spurs 03-04: Pistons (where the Lakers outplayed and outcoached by an all means inferior squad talent wise and according to the all mighty media) 05-06, 06-07: Suns (they blew a 3-1 lead against an injured Suns team without a center or Amar'e and got wiped out the next year) 07-08: Celtics (were beating the brakes off of them, while he was getting out coached by the often questionable Doc Rivers). 08-09: They win the title, but almost lose to a team who lost their star center, shooting guard, and defensive juggernaut backup center. If the Rockets have all of their pieces in places, couldn't I say more talented team...
might be the one advantage from having everyone always say we are undersized and undermanned everytime we win. they have to credit someone, might as well be the coach. he certainly has deserved the award more than a few times. but i don't think our highest goal is getting RA the award. i think we are getting better each game and might have a much bigger upside than people currently think.
