you hit it on the head. even the WACO guy said the only way tmac has back spasms again is if he gets hit REALLY hard on the way to the basket. so i think tmac wants to minimize the time he gets hit and falls to the floor as much as possible.

I agree 100% with Tracy and RA. Tracy was going to the basket and he wasn't getting no calls I just don't understand it maybe its becasue he wasn't an all-star this year. Or maybe the refs don't look at him as a great player anymore its like they treating him like hes a rookie all over again.

"Swallowing the whistle" seems to be pandemic this year. T-mac doesn't get a quarter of the calls for fouls comitted on him, but then neither does Yao or Chuck Hayes or Scola. Don't know what the thinking is in the minds of whover is in charge of the NBA refs, or it is - horrors - possible there is another betting scandal brewing? E.g. the ref that made those ridiculous calls against the Rocks in the Sacramento game the other night, was the same idiot that threw Brad Miller out of the game for questionable reasons.

Of course their are those "superstars" such as Kobe, Nowitzky, Baron Davis, Paul Pierce, LeBron, et al, that seem to constantly get passes from the refs seemingly based on the stars' reputations. D'Antoni (right or wrong) seems to be one of the minority of coaches who has the cojones to call out those incompetents (or miscreants if you will) during a game. I have no idea whether or not Adelman and other coaches around the League really press their case towards the NBA management for more consistent refereeing.

You don't get FTs shooting jumpshots.

Ironically, TMac is a master of getting fouled in jump shooting (by pump-faking the defender up into the air). And he is not very good at drawing fouls going to the hoop. Go figure.

Exactly. It's a bail out move that many players (Wade and Nowitzski being the worst) have made their "go to" move. That's a damn shame when a player knows all he has to do is put his head down and charge at whoever is waiting at the basket and they are promised a trip to the line. Of course, Wade's days of doing that consistently seem to be coming to an end. I wonder what type of player he will be when he becomes primarily a jump shooter who has to avoid contact at the rim (like Tmac) in order to stay healthy enough to play the majority of the season.

As a sidenote: I see Kobe being mentioned with Wade and Ginobli as someone who just throws himself into people. I disagree. I don't like Kobe but he appears to me to be a guy who is going to the rim to get a basket first and draw a foul second. I respect that.

In the last few games T-Mac is driving a lot more. Kinda surprised to see you mention this when even the TNT announcers were saying that he isnt getting the calls when he does drive. If it was old 80/20 J to drive split T-Mac then you might have a point, but it does not excuse the times he does drive and doesnt get the call when he gets fouled.

If you get the foul called 1 in 4 when you really get fouled, whats the point of continuing to do it. It would fit the textbook definition of insanity, which is repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting different results. Its hard as heck to finish in traffic, even tougher to do it when you do get fouled.

Simple: If your J isnt falling, drive the lane and try to get to the foul line. If you are driving the lane and not getting any calls, try the J. T-Mac shoots a higher percentage on jumpers than on layup/floater attempts where he is fouled with no call.

I haven't seen Kobe jump laterally into a defender when that was taking him away from the basket. Wade and Dirk and Ginobili are doing that alot. I remember in the play-offs against GSW last year, Dirk would be leaning toward the defense trying to get a foul call on a jumper. He did that about 3 or 4 times early, but later just started shooting properly. When he quit trying to contort his body for the calls, he started making his shots. Sweet Irony.

I disagree. You can plant the seed with the hometown media to ask those type of questions and discuss it. You can even tell the media members following the team privately that you are going after the NBA offices with video. Let them make a story out of it, anonymous source, then they can bring it up in press conferences and Adelman can just point out statistics, he doesn't have to say anything, just show a stat of how many times DWade and Maggette drive to the basket and get fouls and then compare that to how many times McGrady drives to the basket and gets fouls, compare the FT shooting disparity in the press conference after games when it was obvious we were jobbed with 8 FTs shot the entire game. Get your radio and TV broadcasters to mention the lack of foul calling, specifically when the officials are standing in front of the scoring table, etc., etc. There's a million psychological games an organization can play and get away with it by "employing" fans and other people that are not necessarily employed by the Rockets to help them get a point across. Have the video replays show constantly after every drive/shot of 111 showing all the contact. Get the hometown fans booing incessantly at the lack of a call. We should have video cameraman whose job it is to specifically record the contact on McGrady and Yao. They shouldn't follow the play, they should be assigned to record McGrady and Yao from about 3 or 4 different angles. Then the producer always has the option of picking out the best shots for replay. (snicker).

We could turn Toyota Center into a DEN of SNAKES for opposing teams and the officials and apply so much psychological pressure that it will affect the officiating. Cuban does it. He's a pro at it. Now, it's not going to get the officials to call everything right. But, it will get them to call it balanced. What every player in the league wants is consistency, call it on both ends. And we've seen way too many games where Wade can come in and literally throw himself into anybody standing in the paint, throw up some whack shot and get 2 FTs out of it. Then when we go down the other end, McGrady drives the paint, gets hacked by 3 defenders, but because he doesn't fall and spread mop the whole halfcourt he doesn't get a call and it goes back the other way.

We're not even talking about Yao. If fouls were called properly on Yao, he would shoot 10 FT shots per game and would have already been MVP. There is no doubt about it. I have seen maybe 5 games in Yao's whole career where the officials actually blew the whistle consistently when opponents were fouling him. He is a total mismatch for the NBA and they keep looking ways to keep it competitive.

The other thing that our beloved Rockets need to do is to instigate a fight every once in a while, Yao and McGrady specifically. The first thing Yao should do out there when the defense starts the banging around crap is to literally lay somebody out with an elbow or go after someone during the course of play and force the official to blow the whistle and call the tech on him. That brings all the nonsense to a head and forces them to call it close and if they don't, then take a game off and get a second tech and get thrown out. If we could coordinate this with the proper video shots showing all the contact not called, do you think that would make ESPN highlights, do you think Stern and his guys would do a doubletake, especially when our front office called them the next day with a video clip of the last 250 uncalled fouls on Yao over the last 10 games? You simply build the case, that's all, using every means available to you. Now, what happens when the foul calling starts to slip and Yao starts getting beat up again? Just go back to the same thing. Can you imagine Yao getting tossed out twice in one season? Do you think it would make ESPN? LOL Now, multiply that by 2 with McGrady. McGrady should do the exact same thing, escalate the contact, lay somebody out on the defensive end after a no call and get the tech/flagrant/etc. And he and Adelman should argue it over and over. AT THE VERY LEAST, the officials are going to start blowing the whistle for that game because they do not want to lose control of the game. Every time there is a fight/escalated situation during a game, the officials start blowing everything to get back control of the game. We should instigate the escalation, then continue going to the basket.

Will it cost us a couple games? Probably. So what. Do you wanna win the war or just a battle? Who cares about a fine and suspension. We've got to develop a 'win the war' mentality and quit worrying about winning every quarter and saving every nickel. We ain't gonna win every quarter or every game. But we could do the right things to put us at the greatest advantage to win the war. I am tired of this team getting jobbed, especially in the playoffs, because teams and officials come in here and they don't feel the psycholigical pressure from our players, our coaches, our fans, and our media. We are all way too passive and do not exert the same pressure on teams and officials coming in to play us as they exert on us when we go play them. And the officials are allowed to get by with just an occasional smattering of boos, because we are such "nice guys" and won't confront anybody, won't get into any altercations, etc. There's no impact there and it detracts from our homecourt advantage, not to mention we are doomed when we go on the road during the playoffs because of it as other teams up their intensity even more and they get by with more because it is the playoffs.

Does anybody remember Hakeem, Shaq, Kareem, Moses? Those guys all had one thing that Yao/McGrady don't have. They would only take so much abuse and then they got mad and the haymakers started flying. You have to have that to restore balance. Otherwise, teams will continue to push you right out of the game, playoffs, etc. And the refs will allow it because you allow it. I'm telling you, a few altercations involving Yao and McGrady would go a LONG WAY towards curbing the imbalance in the foul calling. With these two guys, we should be shooting more free throws as a team than 90% of the teams we face. Unfortunately, we are in the minority of playoff teams, Utah being the other one in the West, that actually shoots less free throws than our opponents.

seems like the past 3 nights, he started attacking the rim early in the game (even if he misses), then he goes to his jumpers more in the 2nd halves.

seems like even if he doesn't finish around the rim, the "attacking mode" allows him to make his jumpers.

Fair point, but I still don't trust him on the line. But the point is, it's pretty bad when McGrady isn't trustworthy on the FREE throw line.

Do you trust Ben Wallace on the FREE throw line then?

Don't be ridiculous. 70% is still not nearly bad enough for drawing fouls to be a bad thing for the Rockets.

I hate the officiating in the NBA. It's the worst in sports, by far. I wish there were a way the refs couldn't id the players and just call the fouls as they happen.

I know I heard they were going to try to come up with new rules to prevent flopping, so that could be good.

Lastly, I hate the superstars should get their calls argument. If the guys are that good, then they shouldn't need help from the refs.

NBA refs are not fantastic!
