No it's a part of the "don't be an ******* for your entire life" movement. It's so odd that conservative types are the people getting bothered by the actions of a private franchise.

Not impressed unless Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson is appointed CEO.

Dick Parsons has headed Time Warner and been the chairman of Citicorp. The Clippers are a simple tiny business compared to these two. This is like Sam Walton spending a couple days watching a local Seven-Eleven while the owner is on vacation.

Chances are Parsons is just doing a friend a favor helping to take care of the business while the NBA transitions the team from the current situation to whatever comes next. Doubt he needs the money at this stage of his life.

I'll assume no one is taking this bet, even the person I replied to. I don't think it has anything to do with the money. People just like to make these irrational comments and not be bothered to revisit if they're wrong.

And, no a black minority owner doesn't count there are plenty of those all over the league.

What are you saying there hooroo, that Parsons may be only part black? Parsons looks mighty rabbinic to me, frankly.

Why not do a lottery or at least open it up to interviews?

Not sure what you mean, but I think I know what you intend.

You intend to say there is reverse discrimination here and that white people aren't treated fairly. Black people, you might be suggesting, can get away with more in their speech.

But you had already admitted the relevant part of this: if Charles Barkley was bad for NBA business, they would for sure keep him from covering games. If he hurt ratings, TNT would fire him tomorrow. One of the things I love about the current state of greed is that it does make business pretty color blind. (The unfortunate flip side is that, since the media can make money from fake controversies, and race is an easy factor to use as bait to the public, the media now loves making money from even minor racial issues.)

If you're talking about culture, like I posted to treeman, you can complain to your friends and the internet, but there's too much momentum to a culture. People staring at cell phones all day, superhero movies, gay marriage, surprisingly good cable TV dramas, overly tight pants, old white people getting called out for racist statements... that's where we're at.

Personally, as a white male, I don't feel like I'm too disadvantaged by any kind of double-standard -- quite the opposite, in that America has given me every opportunity so far, opportunities I'm not sure it gave everyone in my age group -- but to each his own!

Well Dre won't get 3.2B, that private equity group that invested 500M in Beats just recently will get 1.5B so him and Jimmy Iovino will split 1.7B.

That's how Cuban got started with the Mavs, selling his company during the last internet bubble and then buying the Mavs and that has been a fantastic investment for him.

Awkward, isn't it? Especially with the last name of CEO.

I had a friend in school named (cruelly) CEO Speedwagon. Okay, that's not quite true.
