Agree with all points... and they likely do run the ball more if they actually weren't having to come from behind often, or battle against teams scoring 30+ on them. One thing that the defensive failures (and first half offense struggles) led to is rarely did they play with a decent lead. THAT is where a plus running game is most valuable (which should have happened the Denver game). All that being said, lets not throw the passing game under the bus completely... Schaub did have 4,000 yards + passing with great red zone #'s. But yes... more running game was definitely called for during some games.
They ran the ball 7 times in the second half with a 17 point lead over Denver. In a game in which they had a 17 point lead they rant he ball 20 times and threw the ball 33 times. A the end of the 3rd quarter they led by 13 still.
Ok, so your post discredited my claim that the ZBS can make a OK back put of great stats! So a FB converting to RB and running for over 1,400 yards discredits me. OK, you make sense!! No, not really! That proves my point!
The decision to let Kubiak pick the DC again is just mind numbingly stupid. I can't follow the logic. I don't know how you assign all blame for the bad season to the defense, clear house on the defensive side of the ball, and then give the person who hired all those people the responsibility of finding their replacements. It's like McNair is saying that these coaches didn't do their jobs and were bad hires, but he doesn't place any blame on the person who hired them.
Marciano was on the staff when we had an awesome ST, so I'm not mad that he wasn't fired. The rest of the bums, I'm glad is gone. I'm not happy that Kubiak was fired but at least it's pretty much a blank slate for the defensive staff.
Yeah, plus the fact that injuries to front-line starters cut into ST depth probably helped save Coach Joe this time around. They better find a better answer on returns next year, else he might not be around for season 11. Also, cutting Turk seems to me to be a good idea. Kollar may have some history with whomever we bring in. Kubiak hinted as much in his presser.
I looked, but I don't think their tenures in Buffalo or Atlanta over-lapped. KOLLAR’S COACHING LEDGER 2009-10: Defensive line, Houston Texans 2007-08: Defensive line, Buffalo Bills 2001-05: Defensive line, St. Louis Rams 1990-2000: Defensive line, Atlanta Falcons 1988-89: Defensive line/special teams, Purdue 1986-87: Defensive line/special teams, Illinois 1985: Graduate assistant, Illinois 1984: Defensive assistant/special teams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wade's history: 1989-1992 Denver Broncos Defensive Coordinator 1993-1994 Denver Broncos Head Coach 1995-1997 Buffalo Bills Defensive Coordinator 1998-2000 Buffalo Bills Head Coach 2002-2003 Atlanta Falcons Defensive Coordinator/Interim Head Coach (2003) 2004-2006 San Diego Chargers Defensive Coordinator 2007-2010 Dallas Cowboys Head Coach
Looking at that, just based on the years above, it seems like their tenures in Atlanta were incredibly close together. I'm willing to bet the personnel had not shifted much from the time Kollar was there to the time Wade was there. Coaches always ask each other about players and schemes, and since Kolllar had been in Atlanta directly before Wade, I'm guessing they might have had some exchanges. Of course, this is purely conjecture. They might have ties that don't relate to football for all we know.
APPLAUSE!!! This whole pile of truth should be put on a billboard DIRECTLY across the street form Bob McNairs office.
This is the fundamental problem. He looks at offensive stats, and thinks that means that Kubiak's doing his job. He doesn't understand that the Head Coach is responsible for a bunch of things unrelated to offense.
Not suprising. I bet if someone were to pull the frank bush is hired thread clutchfans were bashing the hiring. How did they not even interview other coaches? I really think clutchfans could run the texans better than Bob McNair.......
Of course Kubiak loved everybody on the staff and could probably say David Gibbs did a great job with the secondary ...with a straight face. Bigger question is how he convinced McNair to spare Kollar. He was Assistant Head Coach this year (not Bush), and the thought is probably spot on that Kubiak already has someone in mind with a Kollar tie. Wonderful - another hire without a real look around for the best candidate. Lovie Smith was DC in St Louis while Kollar was there, but I don't see him leaving Chicago this year. Rich Brooks was DC in Atlanta with Kollar...and both were under Dan Reeves.
