Bush fired as Texans' defensive coordinator http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/7363527.html
McNair is kinda right about how coaching changes can set teams back. Yes most fans will argue that is BS, but the Texans are a little different than most. First lets say we hire Cowher. He would bring in a more traditional running attack, and that would bring vast offensive line changes. Can you imagine if it comes to light that Foster is a product of the zone system. Second, he would for sure bring in a more traditional 3-4 unlike a hybrid 3-4 that Phillips uses. Meaning alot of Defensive personnel changes, but he would also have to adjust to use Mario right. Thats not even touching the changes needed in the secondary. Of course we would all love Cowher, but it would take time to fully implement his style of play. So our zone blocking scheme line and Mario in Cowhers version of the 3-4 would take time to fix. Of course he would get it done and we would be better as a franchise, but we probably will be better next year with Kubiak and Phillips. Thats not counting the years after that, but change does bring hiccups.
Exactly. Derrick Ward looks like he could have ran for 1000 yards in this offense, so it's not like we have Foster then nobody. If you have the leading rusher and a competent backup how are you not top 2-3??
you know what's worse than the potential growing pains of change? continuing to do the same thing over and over again that's brought you results you're not happy with.
The Texans will have another midyear slump and Boob will fire Kubiak and promote Wade Phillips. This is too predictable.
Tell that to Rick Adelman who even with Tracy McGrady went on a 22 game winning streak in his first season as head coach once the players started to get it.
That's the same reasoning the Giants used for keeping Tom Coughlin. At this point this team could use hiccups.
Yeah, most teams fire a coach who goes 8-22 vs. winning teams during his 5-year tenure. Most teams fire a coach who goes 2-8 to end his 5th non-playoff season, with the 2 wins coming against teams playing their 3rd and 2nd string QBs respectively. Most teams fire a coach with an overall losing record after 5 years. Most teams fire their coach for overseeing one of the worst defenses in the history of the NFL. Most teams fire their coach when they go 1-4 after the bye-week during his tenure. I do NOT understand this fear of firing coaches. You are basically saying we shouldn't fire Kubiak because if we did, he wouldn't be the coach anymore. Am I missing something here? I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone or something.
If Phillips steps in and creates a decent/solid defense, without injuries we should make the playoffs and make people happy. I can't say the move doesn't have some logic to it. But if it doesn't work and some other team (and there are going to be plenty this next year), hires Cowher and his team becomes successful while our team misses the playoffs or sucks, everyone will hate McNair for the move and Texans fans will be even more angry. (for the record, I want Cowher too)
And who created this offense that undrafted free agents and cast-offs from Tampa Bay can get 1000+ yards with such ease? Not that I think Kubiak is without his faults, but its like he's made chicken salad out of chicken ****, and yet he's getting criticized because it wasn't the best chicken salad anybody has ever tasted.
Did you just compare a 82 game NBA season to a 16 game NFL season!!! Ok, dont think that is a very good comparison! Good try though!!
Derrick Ward ran for 1000 yards in New York, got a nice free agent contract and got lazy and got cut. He came here to reestablish value and succeeded. Using him to validate this system is silly.
Are you Bob McNair, Kubiak, or John McClain? 5 years and they're back to where they started. So, by your reasoning, we should be happy with an 8-8 season next year because it's an improvement over this one? Being a good-to-great 1-cut RB is not something that only works in the ZBS. It's something that works in every system in the NFL. If he stays healthy and keeps a good mindset, Arian Foster would be just as good in any offensive system in football. Not firing Kubiak because you'd be afraid of what affect it might have on the running game is possibly the most insane reason I've seen to keep him.
