I'm pretty sure if it was 4 instances of voter fraud out of 200 million cast, bobmarley would use it as justification for changing voter laws nationwide. Or if it was just a tweet by random racist people, it would be worthy of posting about. Tweets, yes, but real actions in the real world? Not notable.
Giants fan steps forward in Adam Jones banana incident SAN FRANCISCO -- Alexander Poulides flipped on the news Monday afternoon and saw a story about the outcry surrounding the Giants fan who threw an object at Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones. His heart sank. "Oh, my god,'' Poulides said. "I threw a banana on my way out." Poulides, 42, said he grabbed a banana off a catering cart and hurled it toward the field in disgust at the Giants near the end of a 10-2 loss at AT&T Park on Sunday. The banana apparently sailed toward Jones, who tweeted about the incident after the game. As the Giants launched an investigation, Poulides reached The Mercury News via e-mail and subsequent phone call to claim credit for what he called "an indiscretion." Above all, Poulides stressed repeatedly that the incident was not a racially motivated, as some had speculated. He was upset at the Giants, not Jones. "I'm embarrassed and shocked by the outcome,'' the Northern California resident said. "In hindsight, I wish I didn't do it and I apologize. I'm very sorry." The Giants said they were unable to immediately confirm that Poulides was the culprit and were continuing to investigate the incident. In a public statement earlier Monday, the team wrote: "We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to Adam and the entire Orioles organization for this unfortunate incident,'' the team said in a statement released through the media. The inappropriate actions of this individual in no way reflect the values of our organization and our fans." In it the team's statement, the Giants also reiterated the AT&T Park policy regarding fan conduct. "The Giants have a zero tolerance policy against this type of behavior, which results in immediate ejection from the ballpark,'' the statement said. "While we have been investigating the matter since we learned of the situation, unfortunately we have been unable to identify the person responsible."
I almost nailed it. The fan was not in fact having fun, however, but was just disgusted by the SF Giants and with good reason.
Sad, but not surprising. From what I hear these kind of events are even more common in Football leagues on the European continent.
After living in Houston, NJ, NYC, Upstate NY, Philly and SF, I can say that SF is easily the least racist city to live in. I would agree that Houston is more integrated but people in SF are just as laid back and far more educated on average.
LMFAO educated huh? Okay.... Last I checked you cannot even have your son circumcised in the land of laid back tolerance. The area is every bit as repressive and ignorant as the rest of the US of A, just on different topics and in different ways.
Stuff like this is ridiculous, can have a serious effect on the person (even a millionaire athlete), and does not help my views of the average human.... .... That being said, I would throw a banana at Chris Kaman now that he's on the Lakers.
Um, you just flopped a 9 high with that (completely incorrect) circumcision blast. But there are plenty of legit ways to criticize San Francisco.
Any straight white male should know better than to even consider throwing a banana in public, unless he's sure there are no african-americans within 20 yards of his maximum throw distance. In fact, I wouldn't recommend speaking of watermelon or bananas in public as a straight white male. Also, NEVER use the word "monkey." It sounds racist even in academic settings. Those should all be obvious to those of us looking to avoid knee-jerk persecution. More recently, I've added things like: 1. No-Homo: No longer flip shorthand for the phrase "not in a homosexual manner" but instead means you hate any form of homosexuality. 2. Chink in the armor: After about 700 years of usage, one instance of happenstance double entendre has made this officially racist. 3. Fried Chicken: Long confirmed to be racist. However, while previously is was only racist to suggest a taste for the food, it's now clear that even offering quality fried chicken for free is in fact racist(See; Raisin Caines). Also, anything that almost rhymes with fried chicken should be avoided. (See; Leroy Jenkins)
It's funny one time I was training a new employee how to do something at work and she happened to be a black lady. I was trying to explain why she needed to do something a certain way and someone chided me for it. I just blurted out look, I don't want her to be all monkey see monkey do I want her to understand why she should do it this way.. Everyone's jaws dropped. Lol. I was like, what? Hilarious moment.
I agree with this except the fried chicken thing. I don't really get offended by it and even if someone goes. "You're black and you like fried chicken HAHA!" I'm more like "Okay...liking fried chicken is a bad thing?" Meanwhile the banana thing is A LOT worse because most black people would take it as "You think I'm a monkey?" which goes back to Eugenics and such where some racial scientist thought that black people were less evolved than others. In fact it almost feels like the world is more separated by race today than it was during ancient, greece, rome, egypt, etc...where they discriminated on nationality and class and not so much race. But any ways I never really get offended by watermelon, fried chicken, or any food stereotypes. So what, someone likes watermelon? Big deal. But yeah, calling a black person monkey is not a good idea and will be taken as racial by ANY black person. So, don't think it's cool to call Westbrook a chimp or something it's racial. I've seen guys on Spurstalk call him that and its amazing no one even bats a eye at it. Calling Westbrook a teenage mutant ninja turtle is fine though...
SpursTalk allows more blatantly racist crap than any message board I've seen. Calling someone a monkey sounds about par for the course for those scumbags. I don't even think the 2+2 or bodybuilding boards are as degenerate as SpursTalk. On top of being a Heat fan, I took great pleasure in the fact that the Spurs lost the Finals in just about the most heartbreaking, gut-wrenching way possible. Could not have happened to a better group of fans. As far as Westbrook... lol Spoiler
Oh man I know it. I've seen so many racial remarks there, not just about blacks but Asians too. Mostly regarding the Rockets and it's Asian fans, a few about Mexicans...and no one bats a eye or does anything about it. Then of course everyone has booty gifs all in their signatures. I'm fine with booty gifs but if I want to talk about the game the last thing I want to do is continue to look over my shoulder because the site is pretty much NSFW.
