Thought I would do the comparison to these great UConn players..

    HTML:
Player Min Own Opp Net On Off Net RR Fair
    Battier 72% 15.7 14.6 +1.1 +6.1 -2.4 +8.5 +3.6 $ 10.54
    Villanueva 59% 17.4 19.7 -2.3 -0.8 -6.1 +5.3 +0.2 $ 5.88
    Okafor 22% 15.9 13.8 +2.1 -3.9 -3.9 +0.0 +1.4 $ 2.23
    Gordon 62% 15.5 14.0 +1.5 +1.6 -1.1 +2.7 +1.9 $ 6.79
    Butler 68% 18.3 15.2 +3.1 +2.1 +1.3 +0.8 +2.3 $ 7.88
    Hamilton 71% 19.4 15.2 +4.2 +8.8 +1.1 +7.7 +5.4 $ 11.72
    Allen 76% 23.8 13.9 +9.9 -0.8 -10.1 +9.2 +9.6 $ 17.61
    Marshall 52% 14.5 17.0 -2.5 +2.9 +1.4 +1.5 -1.2 $ 3.51

Battier's fair salary is the 3rd highest if grouped with UConn players, behind 2 All-Stars in Hamilton and Allen. (and only over $1M less than Hamilton)

Knocks against each non-allstar player (possibly rehashed):
Villanueva - A decent player will look great on a crappy team
Okafor - Production per game is 0 when you don't play due to injury
Gordon - On/off basically evens out
Butler - Doesn't bring anything special
Marshall - Has negative point differential

The point is, we won't know if this was a good trade or not until 1/2-way through the season.

I would also like to point out that despite all the GM genius of Jerry West, he has yet to put together a team that's won a single playoff game.

The Grizzlies lost a core part of their team. The Rockets add a proven player to a team that would have made the playoffs if not for injuries. It's much more likely that we do better in 07-08 than Memphis.

Lastly, let's look at the makeup of the 06-07 Heat vs. 07-08 Rox.

Shaq vs. Yao - both dominant centers
Haslem vs. Battier - both hard-working intangible guys
Walker vs. ?? - probably the biggest differential, the 3rd scoring option
Wade vs. Tmac - both phenomenal scorers
Williams vs. Alston - a bit of discrepancy in terms of 3pt%, but both good passers

So the biggest difference is the 3 pt threat (where Williams and Walker provided the most danger). A year ago we had gaps in the frontcourt and the backcourt - we've plugged one of those holes.

    tinman -
you have considerable energy, but you should direct it in a more positive way.
The ad has very little chance of happening anyway. If it makes you feel good, just say to yourself that you killed this thread and move on.
