I think Ferrell is more one-dimensional than Sandler. Sandler has at least two different characters he falls back on; the humble idiot (Billy Madison, The Waterboy, Little Nicky), and the working class hero (Mr. Deeds, Big Daddy). Ferrell does the exact same schtick every movie. It was old in 2004. Stiller is very underrated, and I think it's a shame that he's done the There's Something About Mary role at least three other times. His bit parts are amazing (Anchorman, School For Scoundrels) and I'd like to see him do more stuff like that like he did in Zoolander.
Stiller is probably my favorite. He's played the villain in a couple of roles off the top of my head that made me laugh. The caretaker at the hospice center in Happy Gilmore. And in Dodgeball which I think is another underrated movie of his as well. Sandler's movies got old for me after Happy Gilmore but they're all at least watchable. Plus he's taken on different non-comedic roles and does a pretty good job in them. Punchdrunk Love and Reign Over Me were acted well by him. Ferrell reminds me of the comedic version of Al Pacino. You can always count on him to yell his lines for added humor to show how much of an idiot his character is. And he does it well. I like them all though.
Seth Rogan is mostly known for his roles in Judd Apatow projects. He was in Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, the Forty Year Old Virgin (Cal the stock guy), Knocked Up (the main character), Superbad (one of the cops), and some other smaller roles. Jon Favreau is probably best known for his writing and directing, but he is also famous as an actor in Swingers, Made, Rudy, and many other movies. He also had his own TV show called Dinner for Five. Hmm, maybe it's because I'm fat and often have facial hair.
I thought Sandler was outstanding in this year's Reign Over Me. Its one of my favorite films of the year.
I view Ferrell as a great supporting actor, but a lousy leading man. He’s only good in small doses. I tend to like movies in which he has a supporting role (Old School, Zoolander, Starsky and Hutch, Wedding Crashers), but I can’t stand any movie in which he’s the lead actor (Anchorman, Elf, Kicking and Screaming, Bewitched, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory). I’m just not a fan of comedic actors that look like they’re trying too hard to be funny. I prefer more subtle humor.
Sandler's comedy roles are mostly all the same, Ben Stiller was different is meet the parents/zoolander/ and theres somthing abouth mary, as was ferrel is elf/oldschool/anchorman not to mention that ferrel and stiller dont need to be the main characters to be brilliant. Overall I chose Ferrel but we are forgetting guys like Owen Wilson and the ones already mentioned.. And never forget Jim Carrey, he still produces comedies but just once every 2 years. which means he has another comedy that'l soon be coming out
I picked Stiller because Will and Adam have to yell to be funny and I'd feel like slapping them if they were like that in real life
Tough choice. Of the three, I chose Will Ferrell. I think I find myself laughing more at his stuff. The other two are pretty funny, though. Happy Gilmore is one of my favorites.
