thanks again. it's been so long since i've lived there that i can't remember the distance between places. i'm going to try to remember to wear my u2 concert tee from the zoo tv tour tomorrow. if any one sees me, say hello. i'll be at black keys and spoon for sure, as close to the front of the right side of the stage as possible.
The Strokes show at Stubb's last night was amazing. They sounded really great and the crowd was into it. Don't miss them if you're going to ACL. They closed with Take It or Leave It.: <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tHNmgll32HM?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tHNmgll32HM?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
i am SURE that trey anastasio is a freaking PHENOMINAL musician. I AM SURE. but fck if i don't hate phish. go farging play jazz you circle-jerking losers. ssstrokes for the w.
Their music is good. It's their followers. After 9 hours in the sun, the BO is going to be epic from that side of the park. AND, NO, I DON'T WANT TO BUY A GRILLED CHEESE THAT'S BEEN IN YOUR FANNY PACK FOR 4 WEEKS!
I love how people's musical tastes vary so much. A buddy of mine went to that show and I quote "They were the worst band I've seen in ages." Although from that video, I have to admit they sounded like crap. That said he finished with "Bring on The Eagles!" so go figure.
Was that your buddy's first encounter listening to The Strokes or is he familiar with the band? Listening to a band live for the first time for first listen sometimes distorts the true sound. Rarely is a band as good live as they are on their studio albums.
Pretty good first day. It was a little warm but nothing like in the past. Got to meet Groogrux while watching Blues Travlers. Mofro was great, as were the Black Keys and Spoon. The Verve Pipe put on a great kids show. Vampire Weekend was better that I thought they were last year. That was about all the kids could handle so we missed out on Phish and The Strokes. Today is about discovery as I have little I want to see.
Phish blew me away. They have a lot of talent. Did anyone else catch Robert Randolph? Epic pedal steel skills. The Strokes have two or three catchy songs, but other than that, I got pretty bored after 30 minutes and headed to Phish. I've never had allergies, but I'm so congested this morning.
See LCD Soundsystem tonight when you are there. Saw them last night in Houston. I was already real excited and anticipating and they blew me away still. Probably the best concert ive been to.
claratin d is your friend - my allergies were bad growing up in houston and when i first moved to austin i seriously had no problems for about 3 years than it hit me - austin is at some cross-section of all these different types of pollens so its billed as 'the allergy capital of the world'. it seems to get worse every year. ive been taking claratin d everyday for almost 2 weeks now. i just stay on it this time of year. i did get to catch the last 15 minutes of sonic youth on the acl website live feed. they sounded great! still havent got a ticket, but i hope to see them tonite at la zona rosa.
Saw deadmau5 at Austin music hall last night, truly incredible show. Now then, does anyone have any tips on how to sneak into ACL.......?
^ ain't happening. They may lot check for much at the entrance, but a wristband is the first thing they're looking for I will have to admit, the Deadmau5 bit was pretty good. Though, you have to wonder...would he be that popular if he wasn't wearing a mask? LCD was very good. Lucero and Pete Yorn were good, too. Looking forward to Ted Leo, Trombone Shorty, and Flaming Lips today. The rest is a crapshoot.
Of all the Saturday bands I saw I felt like Monsters of Folk went out there and spit in all the other bands faces with a great performance. They drew a way bigger crowd than anyone probably expected (other than themselves probably). One of the only bands out there playing timeless music that appealed to a wide audience. Really cool place to get away from you freaks having seizures watching that guy with the rat head on push play on a Mac.
agreed... we all felt that MoF played the best set of the bands we saw. and deadmau5.... WTF? would anyone pay attention to that guy if he didn't wear a mouse head? the answer is "no," in case you were wondering. his music sounds exactly like every other molly/ecstacy/mdma enhanced techno that's ever been produced. cool light show? sure. music you can dance to? yeah, i guess. "amazing," "groundbreaking," blah blah blah.... give me break.
