That is still my favorite year overall. Yonder Mountain String Band was phenominal. I think that will end this year. 2005 would have been my least favorite year if it wasn't for the Black Crowes and Mofro. I never made it back on Sunday because I couldn't breath from all of the dust. That and it was 108 by noon. This year should be fantastic. Van Morrison, Willy, and Petty alone are worth the ticket. Throw in Son Volt, Flaming Lips, Ray Lamontagne, Los Lobos, Galactic, and Calexico and you've got one hell of a weekend. I'm pretty geeked to get to Friday...
http://austincitylimits.frontgatetickets.com/ if you dont have a ticket yet looks like they put some more 3 day passes up for sale.
leroy u missed out on JET, Coldplay, Oasis, Block Party, Massive Attack I do agree about the dust problem. go michael jackson this time around.
ACL is the adult contemporary lollapaloozer fest. hell, even lollapaloozer is for the 35+ crowd these days... i say this and i'll be 36 in a month. i wouldn't let my kids sell drugs to the wannabes at that crapfest. flame on...
Can anyone tell me the best way to get to ACL. I'm coming from South Mopac next to Barton Creek Mall. Zilker is right down Mopac so driving to the shuttle stop would be kind of unecessary. I also don't want to ride a bike since there have been some accidents near where I live. Do they have cabs waiting at the end of the night?
I think people who like Jet should have an HDTV slammed on top of their heads. By Vernon Maxwell. He'd do it, too. His sign said he'd work for food. Or child support. Or dope.
i'm sorry but all these festivals are for the younger-than-thegary crowd. i still love to go to a good show, but i have no patience whatsoever to hang out with a mob of teenagers all freakin day long. flame on...
its over. its over. I enjoyed Sunday the best of all the days. Most impressive: TV on the Radio Wow, I didn't know about this band: Huskie Rescue I can't believe I missed this band: Ghostland Observatory Somewhat dissapointing: Jose Gonzalez Lived up to hype: Matisyahu I've been reading quite a few critics reviews of the festival, and all of them are saying Ghostland had the best performance of all. The crowd on Sunday seemed to be about 30% more than the other days. Probably because of Matisyahu. Oh and by the way I caught Sufjan Stevens in concert at Paramount Theatre on both Friday and Saturday. Great performances from him, but he forgot the lyrics to "Abraham." Overzealous crowd on Saturday. Underzealous crowd on Friday.
massive attack was by far the best thing i saw. they were amazing. almost like some kind of musical review as there were about 5 different vocalists who were taking turns singing their songs. great mix of electronics and live instruments - guitarist was coaxing some very nice, trippy sounds and cool solos - two drummers is always nice. and that was liz frasier from cocteau twins with them. i thought it was her. went home and did some research and saw that they brought her along. cool light show too. ive seen the flaming lips over 10 times going back to about 1991, and that might have been the best show ive ever seen from them. unlike the last time i saw them, they actually played more than 15 minutes of music in their set. they went all out on the props - fake blood, confetti cannons, streamers, 15 santa clauses and 15 cute girls dressed up like extraterrestrial cheerleaders. i dont like the new album so much, but live i thought the new songs sounded great. van morrison was a religious experience. im not really a fan and had no idea what to expect, but man they were good - effortlessly went from soul/gospel to country to blues and everything inbetween. i only recognized about 25% of the set, but i was totally blown away - what a bunch of pros that band was. it could have been louder, but everyone sounded great. trading off of solos b/t violin, organ, pedal steel, guitar and sax was a real treat. did i mention how great that band was? the raconteurs were actually pretty good. i dont really like what i heard off their album and im not much of a white stripes fan (except for get behind me satan, which is a great album). live though, they were like late period led zep. really good stuff. tv on the radio - i think they will be like arcade fire was for me last year - not really a fan till i saw them live. these guys were bad-ass. willie - ive seen him so many times that at this point there are no suprises for me when he plays. i watched about 30 minutes before treking over to see massive attack. like van morrison, the sound during willie's set was way too quiet. willie shouldnt be limited by lack of sound - tis a sin in my book. and one last thing BAN ALL CHAIRS - BAN ALL CHAIRS - BAN ALL CHAIRS
Only cheapskates take the bus. If you weren't a slimeball, you would have rented your own helicopter.
haha, the key is to leave precisely one minute before the final song ends. othewise you'll be waiting in line for 45 minutes.
