band of horses playing thursday night at the parish is about the only thing i'd want to see this weekend.
Which one of you goons wants to hook me up with a ride while in Austin should my friend not score tix?
I didn't get a wristband bc like others have said, I don't want to see many of the bands. Ironically though, every time I go to anything having thought the same thing I end up with a bunch of new favorite bands. Still... I'd rather feel like I know I wont be missing anything special. I'm sticking my head in the sand and sticking to it. At least I'll get to see Texas and Arkansas.
Guys! I won a pair of 3-day passes at work, so I will be attending my first ACL fest this year! Any advice for a complete newbie to be more prepared? Assume I know nothing! Parking tips? What to bring with me? Any of the smaller names I should make a point to check out while there (I like anything non-country)? Someone mentioned picking up their wrist bands in advance... am I gonna be sorry if I don't do that?
both albums are solid... have fun. saturday night funkathon with cyril neville and friends at jovitas will be a damn good time as well.
If you show up on thursday night for band of horses you'll have quite the wait, 48 hours to be exact...it's not 'til saturday night.
Hmm.. Ill be looking forward to only these musicians... Beck Mars Volta Foo Fighters AgainstMe! Gnarls Barkley
- Bring a backpack with as much water and extra curricular activities as you want/need. They'll do a "security check" at the entrance, so don't be so obvious. You're allowed to bring 2 bottles of water per person. So if you bring 8, just say you're with those 4 people over there. - If you bring a chair, don't go to the front of the stage. Stay back or people will throw stuff at you. Seriously. - Don't worry too much about the schedule as any plans will get tossed out from the very beginning. The years I've roamed randomly have been much better than the years I've tried to plan things out or camped at a particular stage. - Don't listen to these schmucks whining about the crowds. Yes, there's 65,000 people in a relatively tight space. However, there are almost never any lines for anything...food, beer, port-o-potties, etc. - If you're driving, the best places to part are either the church @ the corner of Bee Caves & Mopac ($10), Shady Grove ($20), or check to see where the Park & Ride is (usually Republic Square). - Don't be stupid. Drink water. Use sunscreen liberally. Eat food. Get shade when you can. - No need to get wristbands early. There's no line when you get there anyway.
http://acl08.sched.org/leroy420 Lot's of train wrecks, so it will mostly depend on where i am at any given time...
FANTASTIC first day. Weather was perfect and the music was excellent. I'd have to say What Made Milwaukee Famous, Delta Spirit, Dan Dyer, and Vampire Weekend were the highlights. Today looks to be even better...
