He's easily the most NBA ready PG in the draft. If he falls that far that's pretty tragic....but great for us.
Actually he's pretty strong for a PG. He benched 185, 8 times. I know that's not great but I think he can get stronger every year. I really don't think that is a big deal as he has proven he can handle contact and still finish. A lot of people love that about him that he is kind of a big guard. He is a solid passer don't know why people assume he is not. He is a pretty good dribbler and his ability to finish in the paint with either his right or left hand is going to be a huge asset in the Pro's because that is very hard to defend. The only thing in question for me is if he can hit the NBA 3 at a decent clip which I think he can but he won't live and die by it like other players. His midrange game might be better than most PG's rather than a long range shooter. His shooting mechanics are a little odd but he has been able to knock down a lot of long range shots in college at a very solid clip so only time will tell. I think his ceiling is much higher than people think too. The improvements he made throughout college were amazing both as a player and a person.
Um... it's a little linguistic device called "metaphor." When Marv Albert used to say, "Jordon is on fire!" he didn't mean it in the Michael-Jackson-Pepsi-commercial kind of way. Just sayin'.
Until this season I hated his game. He was an inconsistent shooter, dribbled too much, etc... He cleaned a lot of that up though. Still; he has limited range, isn't an exceptional shooter, isn't an exceptional playmaker, isn't an exceptional defender, most players excel at something. Not Law. Except for that uncanny Vince Young-esque ability to perform under pressure. I have probably seen 60-80 games that Law has played in. I consider myself a solid judge of talent. And this is a totally unbiased view but it is my opinion... THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL anyone can tell if this guy will be a NBA performer. I don't think there is a GM out there who has any clue. I couldn't even tell you what role he will have. I could see him being a passer, a shooter, or even molding his game as a defensive specialist. I have no idea. All-Star? Starter? Role player? Bust? With a player like Law there is no way to tell.
Why are some of you guys saying that Law is a great defender? I saw him play here and there and never thought much of his D, and the draft articles I read seem equally unimpressed.
nasty as in ridiculous looking? Because he really does knuckleball the basketball when he shoots it. Reminds of me of the way Manute Bol's three pointers would look when he shot them. They somehow went in, but something just didnt look right.
or Shawn Marrion? I think he'll be a 10-12 ppg. and a 4 apg. PG. Just a hunch. I didn't think a lot of his D either. Most of the time he was a step behind Augustine and Edgar Sosa from Louisville tore him up. It is one thing he'll have to work on. But he is one tough SOB and will do what ever it take to produce a win, and that is something we need.
unfortunately, the advent of Mike James (WHO? MIKE JAMES) likely ends any pipe dreams some of us had of the Rox trading up for Acie. unless (much to Clutch's excitement) we decide to trade off Rafer...
I wasn't very high on Acie Law, but with James on the roster I won't have to worry about the rockets trading up for him. Phew!
