You betcha, as situations change, so do opinions......a true test of character is being able to make on the fly adjustments as the situation changes.

Like queen said.......Any way the wind blows..........(Swish.....)

I've never heard character defined as such. In fact, I've heard it defined as standing your ground in the face of opposition. Not the exact opposite and different situation, I know, but it seems odd that staying the same and changing can both be define as a sign of character.

No, DD, the late party arrivals are the Rox. The season began where I, and many others, felt 35 Ws was a great party. But then the little (and they are short of tall) engine kept chuggin' like a bullet train and demonstrated synergistic factors could make for exciting outcomes. Then, the next wave of injuries derailed the train.

This season has been more fun than I would have believed; and the McG trade better than should have been expected - whether or not the #1s are exchanged next year or not.

So, now development is not only OK, it is desirable. Is anyone healthy enough to develop, tho?

I disagree you are confusing the marketing with the true plan.

Marketing and ticket sales wise, they loved the idea of making the playoffs, but I guarantee that internally they knew that this year was a developmental year.

I am not sure they labeled this a "developmental year". I wouldn't go that far.

But you have a point. Why let Ariza shoot all those terrible shots if we were actually trying to be competitive?

You are confusing Front Office with players and coaches. Had injuries not lapped this team it just might have made a play-off series.

I don't think they are just "marketing" playoffs. I also don't think they see "development" and "playoffs" as contradictory goals.

First, Rockets have always said they anticipate winning in the mid-40s and having a chance at making the playoffs. It looks like the projection will be more or less correct, even despite a midseason shakeup and some injuries beyond Yao and McGrady. The problem is that it looks like playoff berth will require high 40s in wins this year. In any case, the front office has been quite frank in their public assessment of this year's team. They have not been selling COME SEE CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDER for the season.

Second, and more important, the team does not appear to view "development" as just throwing some kids out there and let them lose 60 games and hopefully learn something. Sure, sometimes your teams just don't have a choice but to do it (i.e. the Sonics/Thunder in the seasons leading up to this one). But players can also "develop" while gaining experience playing on winning teams (or at least those who win more than half of their games). It's not like, for example, Aaron Brooks and Carl Landry didn't "develop" at all because they didn't get to play 35 mpg.

The whole "development" requires you to not care about winning at all premise is simply wrong.

yeah i think fans forget this yao experiment is far from over. The team still is shooting for a championship run next season and any playoff experience the core group can get this year, even without yao, would be very valuable. I'm pretty sure gettign the starters more playoff experience is higher on their list than getting the second team more minutes.

DD - You were kind to me on my very first post and I always remember that when I read your posts. And I even understand where you are coming form on the above. But I guess one of the differences we have is that I just don't have a problem with winning - any shape or form.

    Pat,

I can respect that, and I even respect that JVG was wired that way.

In my humble opinion, sometimes management needs to step in and do what is right for the franchise long term.

And unfortunatly sometimes that means tanking.......it is unpleasant, but frankly, smart.

you actually make a fairly good point. Yes, RA is a good coach, but his time is running out. We really should develop a younger coach while we still have games left to throw away.
