But the initial Channel 2 report was that microfracture was a possibility. Evidently, there's a source close to the situation putting that out there.

I'm sure the doctor would break doctor-patient priviledge on a high-profile case like this. He's got nothing to lose but his career right?

I'm sure a lot of professional atheletes would like to visit doctors who discuss their medical injuries with "My Big Brother".

Can we ban this guy, once it's proven he's a liar?

Doctors talk all the danged time, to each other, to nurses, to people at the hospital.

If this was an overheard conversation, there would not be any breaking of any oath...come on people....I mean honestly....SHEESH !

I have a question. I thought I read somewhere that if he did deside to have microfracture surgery, it's purpose would be a career saving opperation (not as career saving as a first round victory in the playoffs). Doesn't this conflict with what some people are saying about the insurance paying for his salary if it is a career ending surgery. As I understand it, no insurance company would pick up the tab until his rehab from micro fracture surgery is deemed a complete failure.

    Thanks

If true or semi-true and T-Mc is out for the season next year, doesn't insurance kick in? IIRC, we would get a one-year medical exception and T-Mc's salary would continue to count against the cap. However, after next season is over, T-Mc's $23M contract also is over, and that money will be deducted from the cap count. Darius Miles' situation was different because his multi-year contract didn't end for several years.

tmac is a wuss. the mri's have clearly shown everytime it's fine, it's looking like he's TRYING to find something. just sit down and take the heat if it's still hurting, because trying to find a doctor to give you another excuse to missing games wont work because after what 4-5 years hes lost his run of excuses.

The original Channel 2 report said that Andrews advised McGrady's camp that microfracture was only suitable as a career saving measure, not whether it was warranted.

This might be intended to hurt my feelings.

Either way, take what you want. I prefer to wait and hear it straight from the horse's mouth.

You may be right.....if that is the case then he should take his time....but also, why hide it?

Just say it....the team would be putting themselves in a strange position by announcing the MRI shows no change.

    I guess we shall see.

When a player needs microfracture surgery, that means the MRI shows missing cartilage, right?

Has it ever been established whether his MRI showed missing cartilage or not?

The team said the MRI is exactly the same, shows no difference.....so all we can really say is that it is not a new injury.

We also know he has had at least 4 doctors tell him he needs to strengthen the knee and to play on it.....

That is all that has been officially announced.

The Microfracture deal comes from Tmac, and a guy whose brother allegedly heard it at the hospital, but we don't know the context of that conversation.

Either way, Tmac should sit out...the team is better off without him.

McGrady Could Be Out For Season

    POSTED: Wednesday, February 11, 2009

    Tracy McGrady
HOUSTON -- Rockets guard Tracy McGrady could miss the remainder of the season, according to sources close to Local 2 sports. An MRI revealed missing cartilage in his left knee, which may require microfracture surgery to repair.
The possibility remains, however, that McGrady will try to finish the season. Dr. James Andrews, generally regarded as the premier orthopaedic surgeon in the country for this type of injury, will review the MRI before a final decision is made. Andrews advised those close to McGrady, that a microfracture surgery should only be used in a career saving situation.

McGrady and the Rockets will discuss options in a meeting at Toyota Center prior to tonight's game against Sacramento. At this point, the Rockets have no comment on the situation.

You may indeed be right, and it would not be surprising....and honestly, if that is the case, he needs to do it, and the team needs to move on....

There is a reason he's stalling. If he has the surgery at his age, his career is over. By the time he rehabs, it will be this time next yr. The rox after the season might as well start with my plan and move forward just like la did with shaq.

But Feigen (or perhaps Blinebury, don't remember), who's usually on top of these things, said there's no indication from McGrady or anyone else that there's missing cartilage.

This is really bizarre. I may have to fall back on my previous theory -- this is really serious, but the Rockets are covering it up for the time being so it doesn't disrupt their trade negotiations involving other Rocket players.

Not sure, Jason Kidd had it late too, and if he does need it, the chances are that it is a very small area that is the problem......otherwise it would have been noticed a long time before.

It could also be that some doctors think he needs it while others think he could play through it and avoid it by strengthening the knee.

Either way, the team should move on...
