what he means is JVG's system is not suitable for Ming, that's "slightly better...under JVG"

About comparing T-Mac & Drexler, here is the stats for career average, I cannot see there are hugh differences between them:

MPG FG% 3P% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
    34.7 .444 .347 .759 1.8 4.6 6.4 4.3 1.38 1.10 2.26 2.00 22.0
    34.6 .472 .318 .788 2.40 3.70 6.10 5.6 2.03 .66 2.74 3.00 20.4

Guys, why the hell would someone watch and listen to the commentary on TNT when the game is being shown on FSN and Drexler is not commentating?

I must disagree...I think Miller is actually a very good commentator, especially given he's only been on the job for a few months.

He is not that far off on Yao and TMac....Yao is clearly much more talented than Smits, and his stats are already moderately better. But Smits was a key player in some playoff wars...Yao's yet to make it out of the first round.

TMac is clearly (at least IMO) a better, more well-rounded player than 1-gear Drexler...but like someone else mentioned...he drove his teams to several late round wins. Both Tmac and Yao need to do some damage this year in the playoffs...no excuses.

actually listening to miller the few times i have i get the feeling he actually likes the rockets, or atleast t-mac.

the rik smits comparison is something that's left over from his pre-draft days and is still pretty weak.

they're both tall and can fly but as far as style of play, t-mac doesn't really resemble drexler at all.

Last I checked Rik Smits didn't play any defense. And I think T-Mac is much more similar to Michael Jordan then Clyde Drexler.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but aside from implying that Luther Head didn't know that Ray Allen was a dangerous shooter, he also said that Tracy should have picked him up on the fast break. He said "if you're the first guy back on defense, you have to find the shooter".

    WRONG.

If you're the first man back on defense, you stop the player with the ball or if someone is behind you, you drop into the paint and defend the basket. If Tracy had left to guard Ray, the man dribbling (don't remember who it was) would have just walked in for a layup.

Actually, Drexler's Blazers were a talented team. More talented than any team TMac ever had before coming to Houston.

enjoy Reggie and Doug Collins a helluva lot more than Tolbert, Sean Elliott, and Kerr.

I agree. Tolbert is awful with his "insight". He mumbles. I cannot hear him clearly even when I have the TV at mega volume.

Tolbert is worse than Elliot or Kerr.

Exactly. Pacers used to always try to establish Smits early back in the days.

I liked smits' game, but come on. his career stats are 14.8/6.1 (6.1 rebounds for a guy 7-4!).

Yao's stats this year are 19.8/9.1 and headed up.

Reggie Miller should stick to his original gig as owner/operator of a bar in Deep Space Nine

Ha! I've been saying that for a couple of years. The guy looks like a Ferengi.

Oops. Did I say that out loud? Okay, I admit it - I'm a Star Trek geek.

I wouldn't compare McGrady's game to Drexler's, although that is a pretty big compliment. I think that Reggie was thinking that Drexler was the #2 Shooting Guard of that era, and he was right. I would compare McGrady to Magic Johnson, if anyone of that calibur of talent. I'm not saying he's better than Magic (whom I think is the best player ever), but he definately has the potential.

As far as Yao being on Smit's level- that's crazy. Yao will probably be considered among the top 10-15 best centers ever when his career is over. Smits doesn't even come close.

You've done an excellent job of summing up Miller's entire career in two sentences!

I wonder why TNT is not an EXCLUSIVE broadcaster any more.
